How much effort do you put into a prior residents' mail getting to him? We'vee been living here for about 6 months and we get 1-2 letters per day for him, mostly official looking stuff.
We do the whole return to sender or moved(no longer at this address) thing on the envelope but many of the the companies just resend them back to us.
I'm willing to give some grace but if you haven't done a USPS change of address yet, your mail is about to go straight in the trash can soon, especially the stuff that got remailed to me
