I know the jury is still out and one game does not a season make, but without question or logical debate Lambert put some serious distance between himself and Brice Ramsey with his NCAA record setting performance Saturday night.
With that as background I feel compelled to add the competition needs to continue. It seems to have been good for Lambert, Ramsey too. Since I watched the game from a condo at PCB it was not until last night that I saw Brice's punt.... he's LEFT FOOTED! I was also left wondering if his 42 yarder puts him in competition as our punter in the future. That would be huge IMO.
But I digress.
The fact no collegiate QB has ever matched Lambert's performance in NCAA history tells us immediately no QB could maintain that kind of consistency although his present season completion rate of 74% is a worthwhile goal... yet... even that is way too high to expect so I'm looking for something around 70% if we stay in the west coast look.
I don't look for Ramsey to play that much early Saturday, maybe none in the first half. We've got a lead Dawg and he needs reps. Ramsey needs reps too and hopefully he'll get in the game and be allowed to run the offense but right now I think CBS wants GL11 ready for 'bama. Maybe take over half way through the 3rd qtr if all is going well. I look for Bauta's first appearance in the 4th.
Again, QB competition is not over but BR12 has a lot of ground to make up and after Saturday night it's for all the right reasons. Dawg on!
