I find it hard to believe that any of our coaches or players want anything other than the best player to win the job. These guys have way too much on the line to get caught up in politics or favorites over who the better player is. The people the ascribe to these conspiracy theories are overthinking this.
Now, I don't doubt there may be a philosophical difference as to whether a coach would rather have a guy that is not as good pre-snap but can really stretch the field or a guy that is really good pre-snap but can't stretch the field as much.
