I was surprised by Norcross PF Lance Thomas' play in their overtime win against neighbor Peachtree Ridge Tuesday night and wondered what you think of him. The 6'8" Alabama Challenge AAU player sank at least two 3-point shots and drained several other long jumpers to resemble a Stretch 4. I counted at least 5 blocked shots and a good number of rebounds. It was a low scoring 47 to 46 game notable more for the frantic swarming defense than for offense.
I'm a big fan of his Norcross teammate Rayshaun Hammond, a similarly sized PF who also has a sweet shot and better ball handling skills. Is Thomas up there just below Hammonds as a Georgia target? While I still think Hammonds is the better long term prospect, Thomas outshone Hammonds in this game because of foul trouble limitations for Rayshaun.
Has anyone other than Auburn shown Thomas much interest among the major programs? If we miss on Hammonds and Okeke, I don't see any other in-state post player who possibly deserves an offer other than Westlake's Michael Durr or Greenforest's Victor Enoh, and I'm not sold on them as SEC level talents. How has Durr played this winter and what have you seen or heard about Enoh?
Norcross' young head coach Jesse McMillan did his usual great job of making decisions and was the difference in the game. They constantly changed up defenses and made things tough on the swarming, undersized Peachtree Hills kids. The game was so well played with far fewer fouls than a Bulldog game that it restored my appreciation for fine hoops.
