Unfortunately missed the game but I watched it on demand late last night. What a gutsy win!
** The patience and resiliency of this team is something to behold. I wasn’t sure the come from behind wins in non-conference play could translate to SEC play. So far they have. But the season is still young.
** It was an interesting decision to start Goldstein with him obviously still recovering. This might just be by design as he continues to get healthy. He did go almost a full 3 innings which is an improvement. I think CWJ is looking at this as long term strategy, i.e. Goldstein is going to be needed and he hopefully will be at his best by the end of conference play. I don’t know if he’s on a pitch count or not.
** Radke is a dude. I think he could have gone another inning or two. But CWJ knows how much to press these guys.
** I’m scratching my head over Kolten even though got the save. All he threw was breaking pitches. Not one fast ball. Wes’s mound visit after Kolten walked the first batter was a sight to behold. I’ve never seen CWJ that pissed on a mound visit. Give Kolten credit for getting the save. Huge.
** This was Hunter’s best day behind the plate. Dude is responsible for blocking several pitches in the dirt that had they gotten past him would have potentially cost UGA the game. Also did you see him after that mound visit by CWJ with Smith? Hunter just had a huge confident grin on his face while looking right at Smith. Great leader!
** I don’t know what is up with McCarthy but he’s made two huge mistakes in CF this year that have led to runs. That passed ball was inexcusable.
** Phelps is a dude in the OF
** I like SEC Kolby Branch better that non-conference Kolby Branch. He just goes into Honey Badger mode. Stealing second after his first attempt was called back is like giving the middle finger to your biggest sports rival. Love it.
** Zabo. My goodness what a freaking bomb to win it. I think the entire stadium gasped when that ball left the bat. He got all of that ball and took every Gator soul in that stadium with it
And now the Gators are on their heels. A win today clinched the series and drives a stake into the heart of Florida baseball. I’m here for it.
