since I spent so many years as a player and coach I tend to not pay attention as much as possible. And I was glad to hear Somto sum up the team's feelings as it's just someone's opinion.
Prior to the season we are all expected to make some kind of predictions. I said that we would make the dance knowing the sec would be very good. I stated that we would be 15-25 pts ppg better than last year. Explaining my forecast I said we would not average 15-25 ppg more per game. However, based on our much better defense and rebounding we would give up many less offensive rebounds and get many more ourselves. I knew due to our much improved length and athleticism we would be much tougher to score on. I was sure we would have many more scoring options and avoid many of the scoring droughts.
After the pre-season and seeing some of the sec play I made a prediction of 7-10 wins in conference. Now we all know how tough the league is, but barring a serious injury situation I still see that as realistic, with 8-10 more likely. I always felt like we'd be middle to top third of the conference and still do.
None of the pundits and so called CBB gurus had us in the top half of the sec. Most had us last 3-4 spots. It's funny now watching Rothstien et al singing our praises and saying we should be top 25. I really dgaf, because as soon as we drop a couple in a row, or 3-4 losses in several games we'll be right back on the bubble or worse. It could happen. The league is that damn good. The worst part will be having to put up with the posts from the clowns that sing our praises when we're rolling and are ready to fire CMW and diss our players when things get tough.
