That first quarter we were rolling Zion, Walthour, and Stack out there a lot as a group. Heck the opening drive Williams was bumping inside lining up out of position in the B gap. They were getting virtually no penetration and allowing Judkins big lanes and Dart all kinds of time to throw. We started rotating a bit more and Christen Miller comes in, allowing Williams to bounce outside. The DL immediately starts moving the line of scrimmage. I know it’s talked about a lot how we aren’t the same team up front like we were in years past but IMO that won’t be the case this year.
Those unheralded upperclassmen were bridging the gap to what we’ll see on Saturday. The trio of Miller, TID and Gabe Harris are taking the next step and will show it vs. Clemson. Add that to Stack and Warren and it’ll make for an incredible rotation at DE/DT that’s 5 deep. McCleod, Jarrett, JJA and Hall (once healthy) will slowly come along during the season, making it a legit 9 man rotation. Allowing Georgia to stay fresh and find those situational combinations to win up front.
By the end of the season I think retaining Miller will be looked back at as the biggest move of the offseason. I’m talking bigger than the addition of ETN and Colbie Young even after the RaRa situation. I believe Millers impact will be massive. The overall talent of the group will be back to our standard set under Kirby AND the depth will be there as well. But the brightest star out of that group will be Christen Miller.
Anybody have a personal favorite for breakout player on the DL this year? Sorry if TLDR but I’m PUMPED.
