-It reminded me of the Auburn win to finish up that series in 2013. We hadn't played very well the first two games of that series. We came out in game three, the latter half of a doubleheader on a Saturday afternoon, got an early HR, got a really nice pitching performance from Jared Walsh, and cruised to an easy win.... Heath Holder starter in LF that game, very surprisingly, and after not having seen any live pitching since the previous fall, managed to get on base and score one or two runs.... Anyway, that game was a very good feeling win, one that was sorely needed, and one that reminded me, at least, of how winnable and fun these games are when you play well, hit with men in scoring position, pitch well, etc. It's a nice feeling and I'm glad that we got it done today.
-Heath Holder is really turning into a guy.... He's had several outings now where he's carried us and you knew early on that he was never, ever going to be the reason we didn't win. At the end of a long, up and down career, I can't really put into words how great it is to see this. Here's a guy who has had so many chances, so many opportunities to go into the tank, and he never has done that. I respect it so much.
-I figured we'd go with Adam Sasser at 1st today after the error and hitless game from Sullivan yesterday. Sasser sure made the most of it and I figure he'll get the start on Wednesday if Nichols isn't ready to go. I know that the coaches have been high on Sasser for awhile now.... neither he nor Sullivan has gotten enough consecutive ABs to get into a rhythm, but again, Sasser made the most of his chance today and I agree with Stricklin that it was one of the biggest hits of the year.
-I still think we need to get to 13 SEC wins to get into a regional. That means 5-1 down the stretch. It's possible, though we're going to have to really lock in to get that done. As far as Hoover, things generally broke well for us today. I'm really interested to see Missouri's mentality next weekend. They're still in the picture for Hoover, but the cumulative effects of all those close losses may be a little much for them to overcome. Either way though, we've got something to fight for and these next two opponents are the weakest we've seen in the SEC.
