From what I could tell listening to most of the broadcast, I thought that we played better yesterday than any of the four games against Evansville. Really controlled the game throughout... listening to the broadcast, it just never really felt like we were in danger of losing the game. Riley King's HR in the 9th was huge. That's the kind of hit and the kind of the inning that show up for good teams.
We sure seem pretty good defensively too.
Pitching wise, how good was Darryn Pasqua? That guy has really worked his way up and has quietly turned into a guy for us. He reminds of Bryan Benzor in that respect... just makes the most out of his opportunities and turned into a very reliable option.
In a true save situation, I think that Jack Gowan is getting the ball right now. I think he should. But I also have a ton of faith in Nolan Crisp. I'm not sure what's going on there, his two outings have left a lot to be desired, but we know that he has a lot of ability and a track record.
I think that Corey Collins isn't going to see a ton of pitches to hit moving forward. I really wouldn't mind getting Riley King into the 2-spot. You have to like the chances of either Ben Anderson or King getting on base in front of Collins... But then question becomes who you put behind him. Either way, I really like Collins 3rd and I think King would fit very well hitting between him and Anderson.
The guys were mentioning on the radio yesterday how tough Georgia State's schedule is moving forward. They weren't kidding. This is what the Panthers are looking at before their next home, a month from now:
4 game series at Vanderbilt
Midweek game at tech
3 game series at Tennessee
Midweek game at Florida
3 game series at Kentucky (those guys are going to see A LOT of I-75, to say the least)
Midweek game at Clemson
That would be hard to navigate with an SEC roster, let alone a Sun Belt roster. But I tip my cap to them for challenging themselves.
Anyway, very happy with the win yesterday. I really like this team so far. We're not going to score 8 runs every time out, but five games in, it feels like you're really going to have to work if you want to beat us.
