I didn’t get to go. Friday night 5pm starts are tough these days. From what I gathered in listening and following along, Emerson was good but not great. If that’s true, that’s 2/3 starts where that’s been the case. I don’t really think there is anything to worry about, it’s not like he’s getting shelled (heck, 10 of the 17 outs he got were K’s)... but I do think his not throwing in the fall is a bigger deal for this season than it was made out to be.
I’m really happy for Patrick Sullivan getting that RBI hit late. I really like Chaney Rogers. Love his swing. He needs to play somewhere, I think. But Sullivan needs to be at 1b. He’s not Rich Poythress or Josh Morris, but I do think he’s a better hitter than he’s given credit for. And we know what he is defensively too (though Rogers is really good there too). I really think that ought to be Sullivan’s spot. That sure wound up being a HUGE hit that he got...
I typed this guy’s name above and it reminded me of being out in Tucson in 2009, Sunday against Arizona. The stadium PA guy was going through our lineup and announced him as “Rich Polytheis”... like how do you get that out of “Poythress”? Anyway.
Really nice win, again. Tomorrow will definitely be our toughest test of the year to date. But then, tech knows they could have gotten this one tonight, and didn’t.
