So, I was talking to some friends, neighbors, about recruiting over a few beers. We starting talking about how NIL is the great equalizer and there will be more parity due to how schools are “buying” kids away from the big schools like UGA, Bama, OSU, etc. and I agreed in general, but then I started thinking about what Kirby is doing. It will be another season or 2 to really be able to look at some data around how NIL and the portal is changing the landscape(even though early returns are showing what we all thought) but is there a perspective, or silver lining, that the NIL issue is exposing the guys who just want money, and will be malcontents(so many examples)? and Kirby being the master he is, takes the really good kids who want to win, mixing in some real 5 stars, and his mastery of the portal, and not shutting down on the situation like Dabo, meaning he is embracing and understanding he has to evolve and adapt even though he may not like it, and he still gets the kids he wants with high character, talented, and just want to kick ass and win. I guess what I am saying is that maybe Kirby is mastering this and actually seeing the value of the NIL and still getting errrrboday he wants. I guess what I am saying is, I think Kirby is making lemonade out of a bunch of Lemons and everyone else is just trying to buy a couple of kids to try and win. Sorry for the ramble, but it really started to dawn on me this could be the case. Just like in the business world, if you can stay 1 step ahead of the market, you will crush everyone else.
