Georgia Nabs 3rd Commit in Two Weeks[/B]

• Chris Barnes, the 6-foot-3, 274-pound offensive lineman from Lee County High School in Lee, Georgia.

"I went into Mark Richt's office," Barnes said. "And I remembered that Mark Richt had asked me a few months ago, 'How would you like to be a Dawg?' So I said to him, 'Coach, you remember a few months ago when you asked me if I wanted to be a Dawg?' I am going to answer your question today. I would love to be a Dawg!"

The three-star prospect choose the Bulldogs over offers from South Carolina, deciding that Saturday was the day to break the news.

"I have been feeling it. That is why I came up," Barnes said. "I wanted to just come up one more time and see the spring game. I have been talking to my coaches and my parents about it, and I have been praying about it. That is why I committed."

UGASports Recruiting Analyst Trent Smallwood's Take:
With three offensive lineman already on the commit list, Barnes wasted no time grabbing the fourth spot. Offensive line coach Rob Sale has also wasted no time making himself a forced to be reckoned with on the recruiting trail. Barnes is a versatile lineman that can play all five positions. Has the length to play tackle, but doesn't quiet have the height yet. Throws an outstanding initial punch off the snap, excellent feet, and athletic for his size. Likely an offensive guard for the Bulldogs, and the offensive line class is shaping up to be the best in many years for the Bulldogs.

Questions Answered on Eason's Visit to Georgia[/B]

His recent visit to Athens in the books, 2016's No. 1 overall player and Jacob Eason has made his way back to the Pacific Northwest for well-deserved moment of rest in his busy schedule.

That didn't stop his father, Tony Eason, from breaking down the visit earlier today.

"He was double-checking everything," Eason said. "He just wanted to get back because he hadn't been there in awhile, and, with the NCAA rules, Schottenheimer flew all the way out here for a basketball game, but he couldn't talk to him. Sure, the guy's sitting in the stands, he's the new offensive coordinator, but you can't even have a conversation with him because it's so ridiculous. Anyway, he was really looking forward to meeting him. That was the gist of the trip, was them spending a lot of one-on-one time together. Jake said he was just doing X's and O's, and he was seeing what Jake knew and teaching him. He was just feeling out the coaching style, and Jake really liked him. He likes his style and his personality. They got along great. It basically just reaffirmed everything. He had a good relationship with Bobo, and he had to reestablish that and make sure he was solid on the coordinator. Everything checked out there."

It appears the future quarterback and new offensive coordinator bonded over a love of the pro-style offense and number of interests, including something you might not expect to hear about a Washingtonian.

"What people don't know about Jacob is he's got a little country side to him, and that's where Schotty is kind of from, too," Eason said. "Their personalities got along really well, and I don't think Richt could have done a better job hiring a coordinator to fit what Jacob is looking for. It's the whole pro game. Jacob could play for any program in the country, including those spread programs, and throw the crap out of the ball. He could set all kinds of records, but that's not what it's about for him. It's about the pro-style offense and learning the nuances of that. It's calling plays, getting in the huddle, changing your protection, and having control in the system and learning that. He's building his resume for the next level. He's so excited about all that Schotty can bring to the table to develop him into the best quarterback he can be."

Replacing Mike Bobo was no easy task in the eyes of the Eason family, but Schottenheimer's long NFL history seems to be a natural fit for the placement in the eyes of the family.

"It was such a draw what Mike did with Matt Stafford, to take him and turn him into the number one pick," Eason said. "Obviously, Jake's looking at that. When Bobo left and Schotty came in, it was about that resume that he has at the next level, which is where Jacob's trying to get to. Schottenheimer's going to be able to coach him up to what he can do, and he'll have a lot of success and fun at Georgia. He's really embracing the role that he's going to fit in when he gets there. He did that when he was down there. It's a great fit for him and his personality, and he can handle all of that. We're just super excited."

Fox Dips into Michigan again for Commit[/B]

• Mike Edwards (Westland, Michigan/John Glenn) decided he wanted to become a Bulldog.

"It was just the best fit for me," Edwards told UGASports. "I spent like seven hours deciding with my coach and my family today. It was crazy. I just did a pros and cons list and it came out for Georgia."

At the end of the day, Edwards said more than anything else, his heart was with the Bulldogs.

"It was really more of a gut feeling with Georgia," Edwards said. "I think the opportunity to get to the next level from there and being able to play right away put them over the top."

This is the second straight year Georgia added a prospect from Michigan during the late signing period. Last year, Michigan State.

"He played a big part," Edwards said of having somebody he knows at Georgia. "Coming in and knowing somebody made me feel more comfortable there."

Top Targets talk Bulldogs

• Deangelo Gibbs may have two full high school football seasons left to play, but the 2017 Peachtree Ridge do-it-all prospect has already picked up nearly 25 offers from top programs around the nation, including nine SEC schools.

While the Cardinal may have been the most recent to come through, the five-star safety has been no stranger to Athens of late.

"I've been to Georgia a few times this week," Gibbs said. "It was a pretty cool experience. I had a chance to talk to coaches more one-on-one and in-depth. I watched their practice, and it was pretty cool. It was spring break, so I went up two or three times."

The entire Bulldog staff has put in work for the versatile sophomore, as he has the skills to impact on either side of the field.

"I've talked with Coach [Thomas] Brown, Coach [Bryan] McClendon, and Coach [Jeremy] Pruitt, because they're recruiting me on both sides of the ball," Gibbs said. "It's a pretty good look for me. Some days, I go up and watch the offense practice, and, other times, I stay with the defense. I haven't made up my mind yet on where I want to play. There'll come a day when I wake up and have to choose a side. Right now, I play both sides and do kick and punt return."

• Rivals250 linebacker Julian Okwara (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) has set his decision date for April 30, and the Georgia Bulldogs have managed to make his final cut heading into the announcment.

"My top five list is Ole Miss," Okwara said. "I put them out in alphabetical order. They aren't really in any order right now. I'm just trying to get everything figured out."

It's been a compelling pitch from Bulldog coaches so far.

"I've been talking to the defensive coordinator [Jeremy Pruitt]. He's talked to me a lot," Okwara said. "I've talked to the defensive line coach [Tracy Rocker], as well. It seems pretty fun. I talk to Georgia a lot about the way they're going to use me. It seems like something I'd really be interested in. They want to use me as a pass rusher trying to get to the quarterback. They want me to get the sack."

• Demetris Robertson has been working to schedule a trip to Athens for some time now, but now the No. 6 overall prospect in the nation appears close to be making an appearance in the Classic City.

The Bulldogs have one key recruiter working on the five-star Tide pledge, and that guy is equally as high profile.
"(With Jacob Eason) it's a good bond," Robertson said. "We just want to get up and link with each other. I might want to join his 7-on-7 team sometime so we can link up with each other and start passing. (Eason is telling me) it's a great place. We could link up there and do big things. He's a great quarterback. He can throw it."

Georgia's staff has put on a full-court press as well, and its coaching shift at the receiver position has Robertson feeling comfortable going forward.

"Everybody from that staff has been talking to me, basically," Robertson said. "I've talked to Coach [Bryan] McClendon, Coach [Jeremy] Pruitt, Coach [Mark] Richt, and Coach [Mike] Ekeler. All of those guys. Coach McClendon is a great coach and that's a great move. He just moved from running back, so he's been there. He played there, actually, so it's a great move. I think he's a great coach who can deliver and do what he does."

• Carlin Fils-Aime isn't much for naming favorites or releasing a pecking order. The Naples (Fla.) High School standout is not ready to make those kinds of definitive statements. He doesn't discuss "dream schools" or anything of the sort. He's long since settled into the "everyone is equal" talking point.

Georgia is of particular interest to the three-star prospect. Despite never having been to campus, he has a solid relationship with the Bulldogs' staff. And that, it seems, is the reason UGA has a spot on the tailback's must-see list.

"They're just a great running back school," Fils-Aime said of Georgia. "I talk to the running back coach a lot. He's an awesome guy. I want to see the school with my own eyes."

• Georgia has had a number of visitors on campus in the past month to see them go through spring practice. LeAnthony Williams, a sophomore defensive back who recently transferred from Hapeville Charter to Roswell, was among those visitors in town last week to see the Bulldogs in action.

The visit was enough to move Georgia to the top of his list.

"Probably Georgia," Williams said when asked which school he likes most. "It's basically because they are closer to home."

Williams naming the Bulldogs his leaders comes right after he received the news that he had a scholarship offer to play at Georgia.

"We were in the room with Coach (Jeremy) Pruitt after practice and we were talking for a long time and then he said 'we are going to offer you'" Williams said. "After that, I just shook his hand and thanked him."

Pruitt's coaching style impressed the Georgia native.

"He's pretty cool," Williams said. "He talked about a lot. He knows defensive backs really well. He's been at Alabama and Florida State and done really well. He's good in practice. He doesn't play any games."

• Leonard Warner may be getting an earful from coaches about what their program could do for his game, but the 2017 Brookwood linebacker has his ear tuned to another voice in Athens.

"Seeing my friend Kendall Baker was the highlight of the trip," Warner said of his trip to Tuesday's practice. "We actually played rec ball back in the day together. It was good to see him. We were in the same rec program, and it was tight. He's really real about it and how the program is. He's has told me that if I came I wouldn't regret it, and I'd have a great experience."

So where does the 6-foot-4, 218 pound sophomore see himself fitting in to that defense? It appears a sizable role would be in store, and coaches are coming in strong to see him fill it.

"I'd be playing in the role of a Leonard Floyd or Lorenzo Carter if I came," Warner said. As far as his coaching style, I got to see him do warmups and a little bit of individual drills. I don't know if that was enough for me to decide I want to play under him or not, though. It was a small sample. Other coaches have touched base with me multiple times. As far as the coach that I've known and talked to the longest, it's probably Coach (Bryan) McClendon, because he used to be over recruiting my area."

• Last Tuesday was a big recruiting event for the Georgia football coaches as No. 1 overall prospect and Bulldogs commit Jacob Eason took in practice. A number of other top recruits made the trip to Athens to meet Eason and watch the players and coaches in action. We spoke to many of them afterwards to get their thoughts on the day and to see if the Bulldogs or Eason made an impression.

Carter, a Rivals100 defensive tackle, left Athens impressed with what he saw from the Dawgs on Tuesday.

"It very interesting seeing and getting the inside look on how the coaches coach and how their players react," Carter said. "I got a general idea of how college is, behind the camera and all that. It was a great experience, and I'd rate it a ten out of ten."

Tracy Rocker, Carter's primary recruiter and possible position coach if he lands in Athens, made an strong impression with his in-your-face approach.

"(Rocker) gave me an inside look on how he coaches," Carter said. "He's a great person to be around, and he knows how to coach you hard and allows himself to be likable at the same time. I'm used to that style, because my defensive line coach played in college and in the NFL. They're telling me I'm really versatile. I can play on the inside and outside. They run a 4-3, 3-4 defense, so I can play at the nose, or I can play at the tackle three through six. I can fit in right away."

• Chesterfield (Va.) Lloyd C. Bird athlete Virginia Tech watching the Hokies go through spring practice. On his way back, he received some surprising good news.

"On our way back, we stopped Five Guys and one of their coaches at Georgia, Coach [Thomas] Brown, asked me to call him so I did," Elliott told UGASports. "He said that Coach [Jeremy] Pruitt had watched my film and they would like to offer me a full scholarship. He put Coach Pruitt on the phone and he said he likes to turn offensive guys into defensive players in his system. It was totally unexpected."

Elliott spoke highly of Georgia's new running backs coach.

"He's a great coach in terms of communication," Elliott said of Brown. "We've talked through direct messages on Twitter and he has a great personality towards players from what I've seen and heard. He's said Georgia is a great place to be and it could be a home away from home. He said they would treat me well once I got there."

Georgia is a program that has caught Elliott's eye the past few years.
"They have done well," Elliott said. "They compete in the SEC every year, so that's all you can ask for in that conference. They have been competing with all the top teams every year. It's amazing to know that I could go play there."

• Brendan Ferns[/URL] was scheduled to meet with the Bulldogs coaching staff on Sunday, and that visit took place.
"Yes we did, we met at length with Ekeler and Richt, also Schottenheimer," Brendan's father Michael said. "I think [John] Lilly is coming to see him next week."

The Bulldogs coaching staff used the time to get to know the Ferns family.

"I mean they are sorta typical get to know conversation," Ferns said. "We have been around a lot of programs they have all pieces of the puzzle it's easy to see that."

Ferns father said he will let the visit soak in a couple days and then talk with Brendan, but all indications look to be Georgia made a strong impression on the Rivals250 linebacker.

Commitment Status on Hold for North Carolina Running Back[/B]

• The commitment status of B.J. Emmons has long been debated - is he in or out with the Bulldogs?

Sunday morning at the Rivals Camp Series in Charlotte, the Rivals250 running back broke down where things stand with Georgia, but his answers still left many questions.
"It's kind of been confusing, because I haven't reached out to anybody," Emmons said. "They kind of sort of reached out to me, but I don't know. I've just been kind of quiet right now, and I haven't really talked to any of the staff lately."

As for how the situation sits with 5-foot-11, 210 pound runner, he's optimistic that it'll be a different tune in the near future.

"I'm still committed as of now," Emmons said. "I haven't talked to anybody, but, hopefully, that'll change sometime soon. I think it's coming."

What would compel the nation's No. 176 player overall to stick around and wait to hear?

"It was love at first sight," Emmons said. "I came, watched a game, saw the way they ran the ball, and watched how the offense got after it. I thought 'That's something I want to be a part of.' That's really what hooked me in, and I was in there since then."
