ten years ago. Braves/ Phillies, a mid week day game in early August. Hot enough to melt the seats at Turner Field.
My brother and I went to Flowery Branch that morning and watched the Falcons training camp practice. Then we zipped down I-85 and caught some day baseball. Pretty good way to spend a Wednesday.
So Dot2th did a great job of keeping me updated tonight, though I know the 7th inning was excruciating to sit through and talk about. We were actually leading going into that frame, then allowed that 8 spot and it was all she wrote.
Same thing happened that hot August day in 2006.... I remembered that the Phillies put up an 8 run inning on us and I remembered that we were ahead going into that frame. And I thought that happened in the 7th inning, as well. So I dug up the box score when I got home, and sure enough, I was right. Wednesday, August 9, 2006...The Bravos had a 2 run lead (3-1) going into the 7th inning. All of a sudden, we couldn't get anyone out.... The Phils wound up scoring 8 times and beat us 9-3. I remember Andruw Jones throwing his glove up in the air in frustration during one pitching change that inning. Looking at the box score, Tyler Yates actually had a hold and was assessed the loss that afternoon, which you don't see every day.
What was a fun, feel good day at the park turned south in a HURRY. After the game, I remember Bobby Cox was quoted as saying "who gives up 8 runs in an inning? I guess we do."
