NonDawg RIP Stephen Hawking.....

Well... as the old saying goes if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. I didn't agree with some of his ideas/"findings" but will allow my creator to have the final word. Anybody saying negative things needs to be more introspective IMO.

I think most Christians roll their eyes at the holier than thou types just as much as non-believers, but I think it's unfair (and a little dangerous) to take the worst examples of a group of people, lump them all together with the rest and apply a label indiscriminately.
Agree. I’m just saying that this is why people do it.

I have the same conversation all the time with feminists who try to tell me that the radicals “aren’t the real feminists”.

The reality is: yes they are and if you don’t like being judged based on their behavior then it’s on you to go confront that behavior over and over until said behavior no longer presents itself under the mantra of your belief system.

The same holds true for Christians. Don’t like it when people roll their eyes at “Christians” for being judgmental? Then go put in the work that it takes to get those folks to modify their behavior accordingly by having difficult conversations over and over.

The other solution is to stop identifying as a member of the group.

That's all incredibly simplistic. While I agree that Christ followers should call out other believers who try to go down the road of playing God in terms of judging others (and the good ones do whenever they see it out in the world), that only gets you so far. People are incredibly stubborn and telling someone they are wrong will only get you so far. At some point you get to the point where you cannot win them all back or you realize that there are people out there that just want to be contrarian, and that has to be ok. There are just going to be bad apples in the world...no way around that.

The idea though that you give up being a Christ follower and identifying as that just because there are some bad actors out there claiming to be the same....we'll that's throwing out the baby with the bath water if I've ever seen it.

You’re right, I shouldn’t have said “The” other solution, I should have said “Another” solution. There are obviously more than two ways to deal with this.

Here’s another alternative then:

Accept that if enough behavior of a certain type does present itself under your belief system then outsiders are going to recognize it and respond accordingly. When that happens, don’t tell them that they’re being unfair (because they aren’t), acknowledge that they have good reason for thinking that and then talk about what you’re trying to do to address it.

By doing so you’re putting the work on yourself in saying “yep, you’ve got a point and I’m doing my part to try and change that” which is going to command a lot more respect and openness on the part of the outsider.

And Christians wonder why no one likes them...
I'm Christian and have never been discriminated against because of being so . . . that I know of. There's no way to argue Christianity logically, but I will "logically" debate anyone of what they think is "Origin of the Species" definition of humans' origins. The book does not claim that. So to be clear, I will debate anyone on man evolving from naturally forming amino acids. Not here of course. I doubt I'll get any takers because I've never met anyone who's read "Origin of the Species" and doesn't have a clue about the processes involved in microbiology. anyway, go at it dudes.

Say what you like about me. No skin off my back. However, if you believe what the Bible says, you must believe in God to get to heaven. He said that he did not. Therefore, connect the dots. Now, I’ll step away and keep further comments to myself so as not to ruffle any more feathers.

You took this to a very strange place, but I like your spunk, kid. Give em hell!

They say a genius is a slight slip to being a lunatic.......I think this guy slipped a long time ago. You have to be a loon to think we can control the earths climate....

The British physicist warned Earth could turn into Venus if action to halt climate change was not taken immediately. He said Venus once had conditions similar to Earth with surface water, mild temperatures and an appropriate atmosphere. The greenhouse effect burned the planet’s oceans and lands, and he believed something similar could happen to Earth if climate change continued unabated. Temperatures on Venus, at present, reach 250 degrees Celsius with powerful winds of 3000mph.

Pretty sure you won’t read it so here are the cliffs:
Genghis Khan killed so many people that large areas of previously cultivated land became forrests again, reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere by 700 million tons which caused global temperatures to drop. So, um, we can and do have a profound effect on the earth’s climate just by existing.

I guess the question is, why is that relevant when discussing him or his work?

Um yea, that's bullshit. Are you kidding me? That's the issue with liberals, you believe in nothing so you'll believe anything. BTW....Russians and Nazi's killed more people than ole Genghis. Both socialist and communists https://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/01/20/quote-of-the-week-genghis-khan-should-have-driven-a-prius/

Because those that believe in nothing will believe in anything.....They guy warned about warring aliens......he was a loon
Who said I believed in nothing? Do you know me? Nope. You actually have to try really hard to not believe that human beings have an effect on the climate, like just totally not believe in scientific data. But youre all in on believing in an ancient text that makes some insanely outrageous claims about giants walking the earth. The article you linked disputed the claim that the effect of that many people dying was equivalent to a set amount of automobile use. Fine. It didn’t contradict the claim that removing a large percentage of humans from the earth would undoubtedly have an effect on the composition of the atmosphere.

Also, this idea that if you don’t believe in the most hilariously childish moral fairytale on par with any ancient culture’s primitive view of the world that you are incapable of believing in anything is just a bad use of logic. I don’t believe in Thor, does that mean I’ll believe in anything?

You can't go somewhere that doesn't exist.

That ancient text you speak of has been attacked for thousands of years and has yet to be disproved.

Yep and Trump wants to form the Space Force.
There is a lot more evidence and probability that aliens exist than God. Just because someone doesn't believe in fairy tales doesn't mean they believe in nothing. They just have higher standards through rational thought.

Don't believe any credible person believes we can control the climate. But, most serious people with a little intellectually honest research realize we can have an effect on it. Sadly you are neither credible or serious.

Effect to what degree? Not measurable. Its stupid to promote how we're all going to have to Move to venus to save humanity. Climate change BS is a HOAX. Anyone with one firing brain cell knows that

This isn’t sub atomic particle theory, it’s really really simple cause and effect stuff. But, I guess no one at NASA has any firing brain cells.

You know you guys have to make up your mind. You're telling us for decades we need to get rid of our SUV's, now you're selling that we only have to kill a bunch of folks and we'll be fine.

See I've lived long enough to go though a half dozen renaming of this Hoax, Global cooling, Climate disruption, Global warming, Man made Global warming,

Why? Because these Eco nuts have a history, and its a history of always being wrong. They use to make predictions in 10 year increments, but people lived more than 10 years and they had to continue making excuses for being wrong. Now they've gone to 100 year predictions. 'If we don't do as I say, in 100 years the Earth will increase its temperature by 1/100ths of a half degree, and we will all die"

Its quite stupid to anyone who actually thinks about things said.....Like GK killing 40 million people and changing the climate. LOL
