from what I gleaned listening to the radio and seeing the box score was the following and you guys who saw it can fill me in.
1) we played pretty good D, and mixed it up some. We also out rebounded them, but sounds like they got some bounces that gave them some second and third looks.
2) except for Yante we could not hit anything. Sounds like we had some open looks. Poor fts as well.
3) Turnovers were 14-5 in their favor and it sounds like some of ours were self inflicted. I imagine playing vs their zone didn't help that.
4) IMO, we played at a slower pace tonight and that played into UK's hands. Their defense is stout, especially when they are set and they have the athletes to contest our shots. We just don't have the offensive talent to beat a really good defensive team in a half court game. We should have forced the action, imo, and I could live with some turnovers then, but we'd also get some better looks. Our guys sounded tentative and that makes sense with JJ way off, because nobody else (except Yante) feels comfortable trying to score in that type of game. On the run they would relax.
5) Bottomline for me is we played the #5 team in the country, basically at home, and had it down to eight points late in the game. We shot horribly and still had a puncher's chance, but couldn't make anything. A loss is a loss, but we will learn from this and be better. We need to play uptempo and as we do more guys will begin to find some confidence.
