This would be better posted on the Vent side, but I don't want to wad any panties.

SaturdayDownSouth has posted the results to some poll questions they posed to UGA fans (link). To the question, "what’s your opinion on Mark Richt," 79% responded that they consider CMR an amazing coach. That surprised me. Granted, I think there's too big of a difference between "amazing coach" and the next option, "middle of the pack." I'd say he's somewhere in between. I'd bet a lot of people would put him there as well and would pick "amazing coach" over "middle of the pack" given only those options. Or it could be opposing team fans loading up on "amazing coach."

"Amazing coach" and "great Christian man" are one and the same to a lot of folks that follow Georgia football, it seems. He's a strong recruiter, a great human being. But an average coach, and below average game day coach.

Well, let's see...in my lifetime there's been Johnny Griffin (Griffith?), Vince Dooley, Ray Goff and Jim Donnan. By that yardstick, CMR is an amazing coach. Dooley's teams were the most consistently prepared, but even he had to have HW to win big.

No doubt that CMR compares favorably to former UGA coaches. Goff and Griffith were awful. Donnan is basically Richt without a decent DC hire. Dooley was a top-tier SEC coach during his tenure. He needed HW, but he also needed Erk. He was able to put it together when he had all the pieces he needed. CMR is notch below Dooley. He's never had all the pieces he needed. Maybe he does now and we'll see if he can put them together. When you compare CMR to his peers, I think he's clearly a notch below "amazing."

No SEC championship in 9 going on 10 years. Dooley didn't have anywhere near the talent that Richt has been blessed with. Also, the last few years are the weakest the east has been in years and Richt can't even win that.

Dooley rarely lost games, he got beat. Richt consistently loses one or two games a year to inferior talent.

Richt will never win a Natty! Great guy, but he doesn't have the ability.

There are numerous coaches that could win 10 games a year with Georgia's talent and schedule. He's an average coach.
