Can't blame him at $700,000. Can't believe Miami's got that kind of $$ to throw around.

Believe it's a bit much for a position coach. I love Thomas, wish him the best, etc.

Yea I'm with you way to much he will be back in Athens in two years after Richt gets fired

Wait a minute. He was offered $700,000 friggin' dollars to be a position coach? Holy moly this kind of nonsense is not sustainable. At this rate in a few years OC and DC will be making 2+ million dollars. Miami has lost their damn minds, because they don't have this kind of money in their athletic department. Surely they aren't dipping into the endowment.

A bit much? That's the understatement of the year. It's beyond ridiculous.

They have fallen under Richts spell. It was the Christian thing to do. Seed faith money brother...money paid will return 10 fold.

It is the market, that should be fine with conservatives.
Obviously it's ridiculous considering what people who run into burning buildings and put their lives at risk against our enemies are paid, but it's what the market bares.

It's ridiculous for any position coach.

The only rumor i have heard about that has 700K tied to it is pittman. Haven't seen anything about Miami...figured we would never know since they don't have to comply with open records and such as a private school

Sounds like he may get O/C after his name. CMR has stated he will call plays so that sort of $$ would be right in the ball park for a guy @ a big school who is kinda new. Not Smart/Pruitt cord cash but about where you'd expect for a new guy with some bonifides and maybe some other options.

One of the other beat writers somewhere tweeted POSSIBLE co some kind of coordinator, but nothing concrete. With CMR saying he'll be calling plays again, guess they'll find some title to give him to justify the $$.

I wonder since CMR came out of all this in great financial shape, if he donated $$ in advance of hiring coaches with the purpose of paying higher salaries?

I remember back during the Damon/Adams rein, CMR paid out of pocket for some bonuses or to supplement salary, etc. and it was against NCAA rules WHICH he didn't know. (and I agree, he should spend his $$ like he wants and have no problem if he wants to give to coaches) so I would think that a way around it would be to give in advance. Or start an endowment for the purpose of coaches' salaries..........Sort of like the Parker AD endowment here.

I think CMR has 5 yrs. And I think it's by his own design. He'll be 60. He said in the beginning, 15 yrs, retire and back to Boca area. Miami came up and probably figured another easy way for 5 yrs to make another 20 million and then retire in the region where he had planned all along. Then do mission work.

Actually at it's core is recruiting. AU gave Muschamp $1.6M for 11 months so he would bring along the top player in America, the number 2 inside LB, and 5 others in the top 25-40 in the state of Florida. Most all of whom had financial commits from Muschamp. He merely switched off the UF booster to an AU big shot to underwrite the deal and brought the players. That's how some of this works. Plus next year and so forth.

First and foremost I want to say you guys may be the best fans in football. Thank you for your class, and Mark Richt.

Real quick update on the University of Miami. The university itself generates about 1.2 billion dollars a year and the []_[]Health network, is the #1 cancer research and treatment centers in all of South Florida. The university of Miami is integrated into all of the hospitals in south Florida and it's only just begun.

Last year we had Donna Shalala who's dream was to be the Stanford of the South. She had the gloves on for 15 years. We just got a new president and the gloves have come off. He has empowered our AD and money is no longer an option. Like at all. It's going to get Miami big. There's cash, lots of it.

That's a good thing. Mark Richt will love to take it without beating anyone of consequence and annually losing to a lesser opponent. I can't think of any reason why it will be any different with Miami no matter what you pay him.

Good luck though!

There seems to be a lot of butt hurt. Look, Miami has finally come into the new decade of college football. It's funny because we have been bashed for years for not spending any money on coaches and coordinators. Hence the really bad football over the last 12 years at Miami. We finally opened the $$$ flood gates. Money is not an issue at The University of Miami, they just made it appear as if it was. The fact that they are making TB Co offensive coordinator/RB coach, I think the money is justified. If you want to play with the big boys you have to be willing to pay the big boys.

Pay no attention to diehard62, he seems to be fixated on Richt in a negative way.

We never played with the big boys. We did lay down for them.

Good luck with Richt!

Hope this is not too far off the subject. With the above talk about paying so much for coaches and other athletic related things reminded me of a story I read on another site.
It was about our deal with The ESPN network tie in. The writer said that their projection of dollars was way underestimated. They predicted that in a few years each of the 14 members could received up to $50M dollars. That is big money. It said that the schools would be hunting ways to spend the money. There is a sea change coming in college athletics. I hope we are ready for it.

Probably no more ridiculous than HCs making north of 4 million though.

That we can agree with, especially head coaches who enormously underachieve relative to their resources and talent, like Richt for example. If anyone has earned their salary, it's Saban and perhaps Meyer. That said, I'm not sure any head coach should be making 4+ million dollars a year. Then again I'm not sure athletes of any kind should be making 15-20 million a year.

Has Thomas accepted because James colley is there current oc . Why would a guy like colley want to be a co oc

Half the work for the same pay, imo

That's only if you buy Brown being a legit offensive coordinator, which I don't. That's a title only with an increase in pay, and since UGA wasn't about to pay him $700,000 to be a RB coach, and rightfully so, good luck to him. I don't believe he'll be anything but a glorified position coach, and the same applies to McClendon.
