We are about to play for our 2nd straight National Championship. I always thought we had it in us, but when I was at UGA (98-02), we went 33-15. Then it seemed we got better but never good enough. My 12-year-old has always been a fan, but he became obsessed at age 7 in 2017. In a way, i am glad he had to suffer that heartbreak, or I am not sure he would have "earned" these last two years (although if we had won, we would have been going for 3 in 6 years).
Not to get sappy, but to me, all this is more than football. It is time and memories with my son (we took a father/son trip last year to Orange Bowl), with my Dad (Rose Bowl in 2018), and with my friends ( Natty last year), and it is talking to you fine people (over the internet). As I get older, there are many friends that I only see on Saturdays in Athens. Not sure that I would even see them if we were putting out 6-6 teams every year.
As I sit in the Crown Room in the Atlanta airport on my way to Orlando for a conference (i know, I am not happy) I think about how lucky we are to be on this run. I know it will not last forever.
Again, sorry for the sappy post; free drinks will do it for me. To all those in LA----hunker down, give 'em hell, and I will see you in Houston for the 3 peat.
Go Dawgs.
