Sterling is always fun to talk to.
On being ready to hit someone else...
“Of course. It’s been a long grind, you know? Going against each other, hitting against the offensive line, we’re just ready to get after someone else.”
On playing with a chip on the shoulder...
“As a defensive line, our first goal is to stop the run. Going into this year, that’s one of the things that we’re going to be looking to improve on. We put in a whole lot of work during the offseason and during this camp. We worked on fundamentals and worked on some new things. I’m just looking forward to putting it all together.”
On the differences in Tracy Rocker in year two...
“Nothing really. He’s the same as year one. He still gets after us. He wants us to be the best. He’s just Coach Rocker.”
On “mean and nasty” football...
“Getting after it each and every down. We’re letting them know we’re going to be here for all four quarters. There’s no let off, no matter what. No matter what the scoreboard says, we’re going to get after them.”
On how he’s personally different this season...
“Heading into this season, I’m more focused. Now that I’m graduated, I can focus more on football and learning, watching film, and studying my opponent.”
On linemen having to pick leaves for Coach Rocker...
“Luckily, I haven’t went to get any leaves. Most of the time, it’s the younger guys, just because they still don’t know how it’s supposed to be done. They’re still dragging their feet, but they’re coming along really well though.”
On the freshmen linemen...
“Just watching them, they’ve made some improvements. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have this season.”
On who’s standing out...
“That’s not the question I need to be answering, so save that for Coach Pruitt or Coach Rock.”
On preparing for opening against UL-Monroe...
“It’s the first game of the season, so we’re going to be up no matter who we play. It’s a chance to get after another team and a chance to show the world what we can do and to show all the hard work we put in this past offseason. I’m excited for it.”
On Brandon Kublanow at center...
“I went up against him a couple of times during camp. He’s doing a really good job at center. I tried a little bit of my moves on him. He’s handling them really well though.”
