The man is obsessively attentive to detail and planning, but this retirement seemed totally rash. He was quite literally interviewing DC replacements for Steele 24 hours before he announced he was retiring. It's left Bama in a really bad spot, and it's the reason you're seeing this exodus of players to the portal. It just all feels very un-Saban-like because a planned transition, even a heads up to the AD of only a few weeks could have avoided much of this chaos. He basically just dropped a grenade and walked out the door.
