I feel like a broken record on this, but a good deal of the potential success of the zone read running play from the shotgun is that the backside DE/OLB has to stay home to respect the QB keep option. And save for one time (as far as I can remember) against Vandy where he ran it in for a TD, Lambert has not kept the ball- ever- even when the run was wide open. And it has been, a lot. Saturday night it was glaring. On our final drive it was like they were just daring him to keep it. On the final 3rd & 2 play where Sony got tackled for a 1-yard loss, GL could have easily run for a 1st down, and maybe a TD, they were crashing down so hard (like they were all game long). I don't know if the coaches have told him not to keep it under any circumstance, but that play has become our primary running play under CBS, so why handcuff us while running it? Hell, at least let GL occasionally keep it and roll out for a pass with the TE dragging in front of him for a run/pass option. Or run a bootleg off of it, a play that we've maybe seen a handful of times all year long. Got to do something different, because what we're doing now isn't working at all. We've scored a total of 36 offensive points in our last 3 games. 12 points a game. We're lucky we won even one of them.
