My SIL is a baseball coach for a small Div. ll private college in NE GA. The facilities are terrible and the school has recently experienced financial issues to the point that they can not spend any money in the foreseeable future. Any chat ideas for fund raising or know of any companies or organizations that donate for improvements to athletic facilities? We're talking 6 figures in needed funds just to make general improvements. We're not talking about UNG type facilities, OMG has anyone been up to North GA campus and seen their athletic fields?

It all starts with alumni. Then businesses in the area. Get the school to send out email broadcasts and you all get the emails from the chamber for businesses. This saves stationery, postage, etc. Chamber might even be willing to sponsor an event since the school brings in revenue for the county with salaries, etc.

Have an event at the field so people can see how bad it is. Doesn't have to be much, maybe a "covered dish" dinner with the school or others providing meats and guests providing the "fixins". Or a grilling cookoff. Charge for plates of food. Get a local band(lots of bands will do for free for the exposure) or the school or HS band to be on hand. Or maybe a DJ. Music puts all in a good mood. Local newspaper can advertise usually for free or AT LEAST do a PSA, same for radio. Get businesses to donate items (or sponsor an event) and have a live auction. Or silent. (you make more on live)

Or organize a golf tourney. Who provides uniforms, softballs, etc. Maybe they would sponsor an event. Anybody that the school buys stuff from should contribute or maybe sponsor an event. Not knowing exactly where you're talking about, just hard to say. If there's fishing around, maybe a fishing tournament.

Thanks Lump, they already do a few things (afraid to admit on the vent that they work concessions at UGA games), but all are good ideas. It's located in a small community so the same businesses get hit up for donations from the college and the local high school. I've suggested a reverse raffle (300 tickets @ $100.00 each) as a good way to make 20K fairly easily.

It is but check the new laws regarding that. And make sure you have a license. (free at sheriff's office) Sounds like you've been through it before, I have.

A long time ago, for something similar, the local vo tech school sent their students out to paint/repair a field house and a landscaping company donated some work on the grounds. You never know, but in a small town, the local sheriff might would even send prisoners out to work on the grounds. I've seen something like that in Barrow Cty a long time ago. Worth a shot, imo.

Sporting Clays Tournament. Etowah Valley hosts them all the time. I don't know how much money is made.....just like any other fund raising venture, it depends on what donations one can get, but it's a fun time. I've seen 3 there in very short order........one for a Ministry, one for a private school, and one for the youth shooting team that Etowah Valley helps sponsor.
Sell raffle tickets, include lunch, etc.

Would Kickstarter be an option?
