I hope everyone is doing well getting ready for the Natty tomorrow. I wanted to provide a quick update to tomorrow's forecast and it isn't a great one. This remains a low confidence forecast given the fact that we are within 24 hours of kickoff. The high resolution forecast models that have a higher probability of being correct are now fully within range of the game and Tuesday's travel day home. There is a razor thin margin for this based on everything I am seeing for pre-game rain potential.
I would plan for occasional light to moderate showers before the game that will impact your walk to Sofi. I still expect pregame to remain mostly dry, but this system is farther east at this point than previously expected, so the rain will be closer to the stadium than what was showing up in the data yesterday. And the margin between rain and no rain will only be a few miles... so it is a tough call at this point.
It will also be windy through much of the day. Sustained winds will average 10-15 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. I am very interested to see if the wind will make it into the stadium. I read reports of people saying they notice the wind when it is hot outside, but they just talked about how much cooler it felt inside the stadium when it was very hot. That indicates there could be some level of impact from the wind.
Showers and thunderstorms will become likely after the game. Some storms could be strong overnight with frequent lightning and wind gusts over 40 mph.
Tuesday still looks like a mess for traveling home. Expect occasional heavy downpours with wind gusts up to 35 mph, especially before 2pm. As with the rain arriving earlier, however, the worst of this set-up will also progress east earlier in the day. I'd expect improving conditions at the airports through the afternoon and evening hours.
