I see some anxiety over what tech did last night and how that translates to the SECCG… and that Kirby should rip everyone a new one for how last night went, etc.
Worth pointing out that in 2019 we beat tech by 45 points… we didn’t play a great game, it was 17-7 at halftime before we pulled away. We were overmatched in the SECCG vs LSU, especially with DeAndre Swift being out. We were beaten soundly.
In 2021 we beat tech by 45 points again, and barely broke a sweat in so doing. That game wasn’t actually as close as 45-0 would suggest. We played a good, strong game with very few miscues. The next week we played our worst game of the year, getting outscored 41-14 by Alabama after taking an early 10-0 lead.
Last year we didn’t play a very good game vs tech. Certainly not an interested game. We slept walked through the first half. Defense gave up an early TD before that was fashionable. It’s always good to beat tech, but that was easily the worst game we played at home against a major college team during those two national championship seasons. Next week we beat LSU 50-30 in a game not that close… and I know LSU piled up the passing yardage, but that was when the game was already in hand.
Bottom line is that how we play vs tech isn’t a predictor of anything for the SECCG.
