NonDawg Tequila is the new bourbon

So I was in a liquor store looking for a particular bourbon (Lucky Seven) and the guy there asked if I would be interested in their hard-to-find tequilas. Me being a tequila novice said no thanks. He told me that a lot of folks who were tired of chasing after bourbon have moved on to tequilas.

Two questions:

Was this a sales pitch or a real thing people are doing?

I had some mediocre tequila yesterday in the spirit of Cinco de Mayo. There were some great recommendations in LumpDawg's thread a few months ago. DId any of you try those and what did you think?
