With G Day tomorrow, it seemed appropriate today to close the book on the 2024 season. It was a real season of contradictions from first half offenses that barely scored to second half explosions against teams like Alabama and Clemson and Tech. We had a defense that looked like the 85 Bears against Texas (twice!), but couldn’t stop Tech at times when it knew exactly what was coming (nor could it get the ball back from ND in the 4th quarter).
At the end of the day, though, there were some great memories. Blowing out Clemson week 1, the first win ever by UGA on the road at #1, beating our four main rivals yet again, and a gutsy performance by a back up QB in MBS to beat Texas a second time - almost making up for some of the back up QB heartbreak we’ve had in that building.
Regardless of some of the issues, though, it was a team that won the SEC and played in the Sugar Bowl. I’m old enough to remember what 1983-2001 (well, most of it) and 2006-2016 felt like. I’ll never take winning the SEC for granted when there are years I’d have given up my right arm to win it.
So, here’s to the 2024 team. A team that wasn’t perfect but never gave up and gave us lots of good memories.
