Barber was excellent his first two seasons. Yes, last year was a rough season, but it's now known he's been dealing with a herniated disc he suffered in the South Caroline game. For what it's worth, Barber punted 6 times for an average of 44 yards before that injury. I've had disc issues - I have no idea how you punt with a herniated disc. I'll credit the guy for toughness if nothing else and for not raising it as an excuse or in his own defense a single time last fall.

The notion that the kid can't kick, that Richt was rash in offering him a scholarship, or that we shouldn't give ships to kickers is a gross overreaction. When Barber has been healthy, he's been a very good punter.
