Only 30 days after the conclusion of another sub .500 season, we have our first public comment on our baseball program. Sort of.

Seth Emerson's article, which poses the question of whether UGA's athletics program being "good but not great" is good enough. Greg McGarity, who may be the worst public speaker and quote provider any of us will ever run across, predictiably provided some non answers to the question.

As to baseball specifically, we can't say that "good but not great" applies. We have quite a ways to go to be "good."

McGarity's comment about baseball (sort of) at the end of the article (which made me want to squeeze my wallet until blood came out) was that the AD position isn't a popularity contest and that it was about making tough decisions and doing the best you can.

Three years ago we fired a better coach (for all his limitations) than Scott Stricklin. So we know that we are not doing the "best we can" at the head coach level. I don't imagine anyone would argue that we are doing the "best we can" at the AD level either. I wish someone would make the NON-tough decision to replace Greg... I know it's not one person who makes that decision, but a few. Still. That is my concern at the end of the day. Scott Stricklin rooked Greg McGarity once and continues to do so. If Greg is in charge of hiring the replacement, who is to say he won't get rooked again?

I swear, our leadership over there makes me want a thermos of coffee it's so limp (wristed) and bland.
