I do want to make this disclaimer. I'm not a rah rah Richt guy. He's got problems getting our guys ready emotionally for games at times and he definitely is not the best game manager late in the fourth quarter. That said, some on here, some in the media and many of our rivals don't look at facts but base their critique of him on what they think they know.
Here's the no. 1 piece of crap I hear.
He can't win a weak East though he has by far the best team. In the last four years we've won the East twice. We had an ungodly amount of injuries (I know, I know, that's an excuse, but when I ask what other team lost their top two RBs, top 3 Wrs and their QB all for substantial amount of time I hear the crickets chirp). Last year was one instance it was absolutely correct, but it was also just one year that they are basing a whole belief system on.
Fact: Since Richt has been our coach we've won the East 5 times, no other East team has won it more than 3.
Another thing some want to say is that since Mizzou joined Mizzou has won it two times when they shouldn't and have been the best team in the East.
Fact:
UGA has by far the best record in the East since Mizzou came into the conference. Mizzou had a legit team in 2013 that was better than ours when we were operating without Gurley, Marshall, Mitchell, Bennett, and JSW. Actually they were better than most of the SEC teams fully loaded and certainly would've been better than all if you took their top two RBs and three of their four best WRs off the field.
Last year is really the only year that fits the narrative that Richt loses a weak East routinely and Mizzou should be favored this year because of it.
One last thing that always comes up: Richt does less with more. This possibly is true, but most overestimate our recruiting here. We're not on the same level as Saban, Meyer, Jimbo, etc. when looking at recruiting. The only team that has won a national championship since Richt has been coach that we may have recruited better than the previous 3 to 4 years is Auburn, and it's still arguable. If anything, there is a direct link between national titles and consistently getting top 5 recruiting classes based on the recruiting services. We get one every now and again, but we're just as likely to finish outside the top ten as we are to get a top 5 class. We're a no. 8 to no. 9 recruiting school right now. Hopefully that is changing.
