The shift on defense is probably the one thing I hate the most and for the life if me can't understand why we do it. It seems more times than not it costs us more than helps. Just yesterday, for example, we left a big hole at SS. And wouldn't you know the batter hit the ball right through the gaping hole vacated by the SS, leading to runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Had the SS not shifted it would have likely ended in double play.
Help me understand why even call a shift. How often does it really help a defense? Why leave gaping holes in the infield? I just don't get it.
