Seeing those images of Parisians fleeing the draconian lockdowns happening now in Paris it made me wonder about the attitude of the general population. By all accounts the French don’t care about freedoms like we do so if they are against these measures imagine how the average American feels. If there were a vote on having absolutely zero restrictions or having whatever bullshit we are doing now what would the outcome be? I’m guessing 80/20 against any of this. Including wearing a mask which is dumbest thing ever in our societies history.

Unfortunately, I think you are underestimating how many Americans want security over freedom. Americans have be desensitized to excessive government regulation. Throw in kids being indoctrinated by the socialists in our schools and colleges and I fear the number would be closer to 50-50. Just look at how easily people were trained to wear masks and not resist.
I think Trump is showing people what freedom looked like and the powers that be do not like that. Hence ,all of the constant attacks on him. They can't allow people to get a taste of it for fear they will lose all of the ground they have gained in the last 50 years.

I think there is just a major divide in how people see life. One side sees things one way and the other side sees it polar opposite. We cannot understand how they could see it their way and the opposite is true. I've never seen it like this in my lifetime. There really is no middle ground.

The masking of America is absurd beyond belief.

Biden's comment about a 'dark winter' in the last debate are going to hurt him big time and especially with younger voters... Doesn't mean they will turn out and vote for Trump but more likely just won't vote at all. This is the group that is least affected by the virus and also the most tired of the lock downs.

The country is broken down into 2 parts. One , is the Covid fear folks , who are afraid of the virus and think we should shut down and deal with the virus .

The other one doesnt care about the virus, want to go to work every day and wont let their lives be dictated by a virus and the media.

Both sides think the other are crazy, are awful people and get what they deserve.

The ones I don't understand are the ones angry you aren't afraid. I've encountered more of those than I want. Do I think its a hoax? No. Has it impacted people I know including death of people I know? Yes. Do I think the overwhelming ++++ majority will kick it? Yes. I have seen all of this with my own eyes at this point.

Good post. The thing that has shocked me about the pandemic though is just how many Americans have blindly accepted living in a shell for an extended period. It was only supposed to be for two weeks. I worry about the long term effects. Many people have been locked down since March and will be working from home well into next year. Prior to the pandemic I had concerns about how soft we had become as a society, but the pandemic has made us dramatically softer. As a country, we seem pretty evenly split between people who want to press forward with their lives, and people who are willing to lock down indefinitely. Although there are people who can work from home seamlessly (this was true prior to the pandemic), many others can't. Who is going to support those who are unwilling to reengage? COVID is not a hoax. It is a legitimate risk, and there are precautions we can all take to reduce the risk. Those precautions aren't fool proof. I felt like I was taking precautions and I got the virus a couple of months ago. My problem is that there has never been a point in our nation's history where we chose to shut down for an extended period because of a risk. The risk of long term shutdown is far greater than the risk of the virus itself.
