And I get that it's almost designed that way, but there should be a relegation of sorts every season for the bottom team from each conference. The bottom two teams each year are suspended from playing the next year and lose all revenue associated with that year. Let's light a fire under some of these teams to do something. I will admit to not being much of an NFL fan outright, or especially compared to college football, but looking back at the time I lived in the UK you had so much effort, drama, and, as the Wide World of Sports put it the thrill of victory and agony of defeat, in the countdown to the end of the football/soccer season where relegation and promotion loomed. I know it will never happen as it would immediately knock a fair amount of the value of the franchises down but man that sure would be fun to watch.
