against the Yankees reminded me of our series with Auburn in 2010.... We got blown out on Friday night, played a competitive game and lost on Saturday, and then got blown out again on an overcast, cool Sunday afternoon. You start thinking about "rock bottom" and wondering if we're really there or how much further it's going to be. Two weeks before that Auburn series in '10 was the infamous Florida State trip. I didn't go down there.... Sat here and listened to all three games online. For a couple of reasons that was about the worst weekend I've ever had. By late Sunday afternoon I was just relieved that it was over.

Then that Auburn thing happened two weekends later. You start to see the long, distant stares, the disbelief over what is happening. It's hard to put it into words. You sit through those games and afterward you don't want to think about it anymore, but you can't stop yourself. I don't know where "rock bottom" actually was in 2010. There are several candidates, unfortunately. And maybe it'll get worse for the Braves in September. Who knows.

I'm just glad that football season is almost here. 2015 has been a pretty bad baseball year all around. I guess 2014 was too. '14 was the first time since 2007 that both the Dawgs and Braves failed to make the postseason in the same year. I think I was always realistic about what the Braves would be this season, but they really should be better than this weekend showed and they should be better than 22 games under .500.... And we should have been better in Athens too this spring. I guess you just get kind of numb to it.

I never left a game early in 2010 (and have only left one game before the final out since then).... While that season was a disaster on ever front, I think you had to figure we'd be a lot better in '11. We knew that Kyle Farmer and Levi Hyams could play and would be outstanding up the middle. Zach Cone looked like he would put up All American numbers as a third year guy. We'd get Alex Wood into the fold and we'd have a third year guy in Michael Palazzone. Heck we even had Craig Gullickson to be excited about. I do think that there's a lot to be excited about long term with the Braves, I really do... One thing that made that SECT run and regional trip so special to me in 2011 was sitting through all those games in 2010 and knowing how far away we were. The Braves may well be the worst team in baseball right now, but it won't stay that way for long. Just as it didn't in Athens in 2010.

Still.... days like today are about as hopeless as it gets. I'm just sick of that feeling.
