I have been watching UGA basketball since Ken Rosemond. I actually saw Elevator play (I was just a kid). Anyway, I can not figure out why we can't get top quality talent to Athens consistently. I know the facilities are not the best but I do not think they are the worst either. I understand the lack of tradition. There is plenty of talent in the state and when I watch other schools play there are ALWAYS kids from GA playing and usually playing very well. I have started watching other SEC games and the one thing I noticed is that most other teams seem more comfortable running their offense while we often appear confused and timid. Other teams have multiple players who can create their own shot and beat people off the dribble. We have no one who can do this consistently. Other teams use the press and play aggressive mtm, often denying passes. We do not have the quickness to do this. Other teams play an aggressive match-up zone, us not as much. Other teams leave a player in the game when he gets hot and hits a few shots. We tend to remove those players from the game.
So with all that said here are my conclusions and I welcome those of you who know more than I to comment:
For whatever reason our coach can't recruit the state.
Some of the players he does recruit, while I'm sure they are great kids, are not SEC caliber players.
Our coach appears set on running his system regardless if he has the players to run it or not.
Thanks for listening.
