First of all, as a longtime( 20yrs) poster, I know that this has always been a contentious place, but that is the nature of the beast and one reason it is interesting. I do believe it is true, however, that at many points in the past there has been much more discussion about about all different aspects of not just UGA BB, but the SEC and college BB in general. And I agree that made the board a much more enjoyable and interesting place.

The large majority of folks who post here, I believe, are BB fans, as well as UGA fans. I know there are many who are both that don't post, but read the board and there are also some who don't follow BB, but are UGA fans. There are also some, I believe, that come here from the vent just to express their opinion that Fox should be fired and never or rarely post any other time. They become more prevalent when things are going bad.

Unfortunately, I believe, those of us who are BB fans, as well as UGA fans, lose much of our desire to post about other things going on in basketball and positive thoughts our team when our hopes and enthusiasm have been crushed, or at the least severely dampened, by our team not being a player or contender for a place on the national stage. I love college BB, as do many here. But, when year after year, we enter a season full of hope that this going to be a year when we can really enjoy an entire season of what is going on with our team and the rest of college BB, only to watch as our hopes fade before the season even gets started in earnest, it changes us.

I know I lose interest in watching other teams play because I can't help compare them with what we could and should be. I yearn to be a part of season long journey with a legitimate belief that we are maximizing our potential and that doing so will allow us to enter into the greatest show in sports at the end of the regular season. One can't help but become jaded and angry after one disappointment piled upon another.

Many of us felt last year was one in which we should have been able to dance and be competitive once there. But, again, due to early season failure and poor decisions throughout the season, up until the final few games, we were once again frustrated.

Ah, but this year was gonna be different we all felt. We finally had everything in place. The parts were all there....veteran talent, a deep bench, including highly regarded newcomers. A coach, who has shown signs at the end of last year that he finally got it and that with this team would embrace a style that would allow us to be a contender. Well...

I miss a lot of the guys who used to post here, but don't anymore because they can't find it in their hearts to defend what they know is happening. They are not inclined, or equipped to post negative things about their program. I understand that, but I'm saddened because some were among the more knowledgeable and insightful on the board.

So that leaves us where we are. A dwindling group of diehard supporters who rage against the dark, clinging to any scrap of hope tossed our way, but angry and more than willing to post the truth about the discouraging inevitability of what we are watching unfold. We are joined by a few who will defend and excuse just about any sin, as long as we win some games and do enough of the right thing to keep a glimmer alive. Along with the few, I mentioned earlier, who just want to voice their angst without any true understanding of BB or our program. Quite a volatile brew. and it is no wonder there is precious little banter about college hoops and a bright future in it.

I'm glad I'm not there to watch this unfold in person.
