The rest of our defenders step to the side and try to drag down the ball carrier. This usually leads to a minimum 2 extra yards and often missed tackles.
I have to wonder it Pruitt is teaching this way. If not he's allowing it to continue, which is just as bad.
In fairness to Mauger, he is solid as well, but he isn't at the line where so many missed tackles are occurring.

It's been a problem for a long time.

See Jake Ganus......

I saw 42 miss a few today too.

Everybody misses a few, but he didn't miss any where he had an opportunity to square up and form tackle. His misses were when he was forced to reach, not because he choose to do so. Also #36 ( McGraw ?) made back to back form tackles on Tenn's last possession where he stopped the ball carrier in his tracks. Those tackles led directly to Our getting the ball back for a last drive.
This is a major issue that has to be corrected. If Pruitt can't get it done, he will fail.

Agree. I was shocked that the open field tackles were so bad too. Getting a chance to square up should be drilled into em but the open field was pitiful.
And by that I felt sorry that the boys have no clue on angles. The DE's were wasting time hand fighting and getting held at this level is pathetic except for a rare few times. The DE's should not engage and wrestle linemen and let the QB/RB slide right past the gate. Sadder than ever that we still look like WIllie Mart is coaching.
