Take the average of the AP poll, Coaches poll and Saragin ratings (Las Vegas) and average the three for a Top 50. Then assign points to each team based on the following:

vs. #1-#10: Win +3 / Loss -1 point
vs. #11-#30: Win +2 / Loss -1.5 points
vs. #31-#50: Win +1 / Loss -2 points
vs. #51 & ⬇️: Win 0 / Loss -4 points

Based on using the most recent Saragin Ratings (I didn’t use AP or Coaches poll in this example) and assuming each team wins their last regular season game, the points would end up being:

Georgia 11
Oregon 10
Ohio State 9
Tennessee 8
Penn State 6
Alabama 5.5
South Carolina 5.5
Notre Dame 4
Ole Miss 3
Miami 3
Big 12 Champ
Group of 5 Champ
————-
Out:
Indiana 3
SMU 1.5
Clemson 0.5

This method would encourage and reward playing a tough schedule and be a huge win for the fans. It makes it simple for fans and teams to understand what it takes to make the playoff and removes all the bias and controversy. The problem is it makes too much sense. 😡
