Was Chuck Schumer wrong ?

The Antifa branch of the Dems are coming after him and are overall pissed at the Dems for not fighting back more.

The Rs have the Senate , House , POTUS and mostly SCOTUS. If he allowed the Government to shut down , thats even worse. I honestly dont understand what they wanted him to do? Sometimes you have to live to fight another day.

Am I wrong here? I think he played it right. He has no leverage at all.

He really had no choice:

• He was on record many times claiming shut downs were bad and destructive
• The continuing resolution was basically the same continuing resolution approved at end of Biden's term
• If it would have not passed the Senate then Trump and OPB director would have had full authority to pick which was and was not essential to keep country going. We could have gotten the budget balanced ASAP under those conditions

I preferred he would have voted it down but he had no leverage and was afraid of the consequences.

Dems voted against it for no real reason other than it was Trump's budget and they are an irrational bunch already and throw Trump getting something and they go spastic.

GOP lost an OK speaker of house in similar circumstances, they wanted more cuts when dems controlled Senate and Presidency. Actually thought he (McCarthy) did about as good as he could do.

Imo, his best play was to stay silent, convince the dem senators that either way was a win for Trump but shutting down would be a grand slam for Trump and lived to fight another day. By choosing to fight initially and then caving he came off looking weak and petty. Sometimes choosing not to fight is the best strategy for setting up the fight when it's the right time. Now the Dems have made it clear that they want to fight against anything Trump advances, even when Trump is right or when the fight is futile.

The few democrats, who Trump doesn’t own their minds, went on record saying the same thing. He was in a no win situation. He took the lesser of two evils for him. The public and larger constituencies will appreciate his pragmatic choice. The lunatic fringe with the loudest voices may be a pain in the ass for him for a couple of months, but I think it will pass.

I have to admit part of me wants to see what a AOC democrat led party will look and sound like. It scares me for the future of the country. But for a lot of supposed Trump hating former conservatives or middle leaning democrats on the board, this should be terrifying. They have tried Hillary, Kamala and now hopefully AOC. And they accuse us of being dumb voters. 😂

Honestly it’s no different than when the Dems were in control of all 3 branches. Many on the right said to shut it down instead of giving in and it’s never a wise thing to do politically. Cooler heads prevail during these times so the Dems should be thankful.

Had he done so and the whole thing went to hell, which it would’ve, no one was going to remember that Nancy, AOC et al were for it. Schumer is the only name anyone would remember. He alone would own it as he is the HMFIC.

Agree he has zero leverage but he initially acted and spoke differently. Makes it look like he flipped, but instead his own big mouth got him in trouble.
