There’s no denying it. What’s happened to the physicality that Kirby once preached? It sure does look like it traveled south on 316 to Tech. They just manhandled and beat up Miami. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do the same to us in a few weeks.

I was just telling my son this. It’s not 100% analogous, but one reason why the Steelers Mike Tomlin chose Russell Wilson over Fields (despite Fields leading the team to a 4-2 record) was because his players saw daily in practice how much better Wilson was at QB. If Tomlin chose to stay with Fields, he stood a chance at losing the team. Has Kirby’s handling of Beck lost the team to an extent? By not holding him accountable, have our players lost their edge? I’m sure they see our supposed leader pouting, crapping the bed, traveling to South Beach on a private jet, wearing more face paint than a kid on Halloween, etc and not being held accountable, and wonder, “Why should I give a crap? Nothing happens to this guy, so why should I give a full effort?”

By lowering the expectations and standard for Beck, have we unintentionally lowered the standards for everyone? We’ve all said there’s something off with this team, and we all see how most players have regressed. Heck, McIlroy yesterday circled Starks and said he’d target him if he was Dart. I never thought I’d witness this. We are a soft and unmotivated and undisciplined team. Maybe Kirby lost the team due to the coddling of Beck and not holding him to the standard.
