Beats 2013 when we lost a starter on defense and the game.

Beats not needing a late TD to force OT vs Jacksonville State and several minor miracles to win in OT.
Beats not needing a late 4th down TD bomb to beat UVA.
Beats not trailing Arkansas State at halftime.
Beats struggling at home with Lamar.

Darn sure beats losing at home to Toledo.

That said, there's a lot of soul searching necessary with the offense.

The running game is solid, we just need to hope that the CBS and CMR get their heads out of the rears and play to the strengths of the team. I am so over people thinking that the QB has to be the greatest drop back passer in the world. All we need is a distributor to the real play makers.

Chubb is going to get his and we have a stable of RBs who can gain yards. Michel is a threat from the backfield of out of the slot. McKenzie is a threat just touching the ball. We also have several quality WRs and TEs. We're too obsessed with making the QB look like Brady or Manning. This is college ball, screw the forced pro style. We need a play maker at QB to go with the play makers at all other positions.

Either play Bauta and see if he can light up the score board with the skill position play makers or play B1G (non-OSU) football and run until the cows come home. Pro style balanced or favoring the pass isn't working with these 2 QBs and it didn't work with Mason last year.

Our best bet could be running out of the I with Hicks at FB clearing holes for the rest of the RBs. Leak the TE out for an occasional PA pass along with GT-like deep passes to Mitchell and Godwin after defenses have settled into defending the run.

I wouldn't say today was a comfortable victory. Vandy had a chance to win until the Sanders pick 6. If this team doesn't improve drastically, they're good for 4 losses this season. That said, 2-0 is awfully nice.

I don't know about them having a chance to win. They did have a chance to tighten things up but defense counts too and many championship teams have won these types of games with big plays on defense.

I am just glad we're not already talking about next year after a crushing loss like in recent history.

We had a great QB without an adequate defense and we lost this type of game. A strong defense and running game has always given football teams a chance to win and I'll take it over the old way.

But yeah, there is much work to do.

I watched highlights from Eason's first 2 games this season. He could make us better NOW. We clearly don't have a starting QB. The question of whether we had 3 starters or none has been answered, and it's very troubling. We can't win the SEC unless we get far better at that position, and quickly.
Long term I have serious concerns about Schotty. We now have a very conservative OC and HC. We have no Mike Bobo to persuade Richt to be more daring, just the opposite. It now seems CMR hired to the extreme of his comfort zone, not a good thing in this case. If Schotty was a bad hire, we're back to waiting 4 years for Richt to come around to making a change.

Richt won't be making the change in 4 years, McGarity will...

You may be right, I hope it doesn't come to that. I said when Schotty was hired this was probably Richt's last chip to play.
It seems obvious now he should have brought in somebody to counter his overly conservative tendencies. Just as Pruitt brought moxey to the program, good partners bring something missing to the program.

Yep. The only way Richt is here beyond 2019 or so is with a Playoff appearance or 2. Not sure he has to win it all but he has to win an SEC Championship or 2 before Eason is done. Richt can't afford another Stafford era bust, especially with the stellar recruiting during this 2nd wind. The team is honestly loaded right now with more good ones to come.

The fact that the team is "loaded" yet still lays an egg against Vandy is concerning. The OL didn't play well. The defense gave up 400+ yards. Vandy had a chance to pull within 3 with plenty of time left in the 4th. Had it not been for an awful decision by their QB, they may well have scored. The bottom line is that hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. UGA football has lived the short end of that quote for far too many years.

You will not win the SEC without better QB play. It seems like we are always missing one little piece.

8-4 and another Belk Bowl. At some point you guys are going to realize that Richt just doesn't have it in him to win a championship. I wish he did. I'm afraid we are in for another painful year. The defense is better; I think. Three and outs kill your defense. We will see in a few weeks.

How does UGA not have a QB ready to play? It's ridiculous?

Exactly, we have a common denominator, everything else has changed, his name is Richt.

I agree with much of that, but I think the OL played well. Our QBs had plenty of space and enough time to be successful, the QBs and maybe play calling was the issue.
On defense, the secondary played very unsoundly. Several, especially Sanders played playground ball. We saw the same problem last week at the end of the 1st half and beginning of the 2nd half.

The fact that we couldn't close out the clock at the end of the game and that we settled for FGs in close is why I called out the OL. We should've been able to roll up 350+ on the ground against Candy.

We didn't blow out Vandy with a stellar offensive outburst but at the end of the day we won in a manner we haven't seen much lately.

We are used to seeing OSU and FSU barely beating lesser teams while also rising to the occasion and beating tougher teams. Let’s see if this UGA team is similar.

For some people to claim that this is the same old thing, it's not. Usually our offense is a QB-led dominant one who doesn't always put lesser opponents away. We are in Year 2 of not having a feature QB. I don't know why people think we have a stud hidden on the roster. If BR werr a stud he would have started last year but they went with HM because he was safer. BR couldn't win the job this year either and when he did get in yesterday he missed a WR as badly as GL did earlier.

We'll know what we really have next week so I am going to remain optimistic until then. There's nothing wrong with a team improving as the season progresses either and we've seen UGA teams get better under Richt. Hopefully this year the improvement won't come at the expense of bad loses early.

Dawgspeed everyone.

Vandy has actually been fairly strong against the run. When you can't pass and teams can put 10 men at the line in red zone situations, it's going to be tough. All The OL can do is open holes and keep defenses off the QB, they did a good job of both yesterday.

Let's just rename the offense the Amish Air Raid...if we're going to be conservative, why not have some fun with it? We can reboot the conversation after SCU leaves Athens on Saturday!

I think everyone that already didn't know has now figured it out. We don't have any QB on the roster near to being just an average SEC QB. We could win the East this year with an average SEC caliber QB. It is a shame that once again there is a huge piece of the puzzle missing. We have a good OL, better than average WR's, and maybe the best RB tandem in the country. Our defense is improving with a set of LB's as good as anywhere. But not having even an average QB is a killer. Good teams on the schedule will stack the box and play man to man. I say 8-4 at best.

I wonder how many Ohio St. fans were saying "8 and 4 at best" after they lost to a horrible Virginia Tech last year at HOME. Easy up Nancy's...good lord

Don't forget 2007 LSU who not only lost to #17 Kentucky in the middle of the season, but also lost to unranked Arkansas at home in their regular season finale.

Championship teams not only have uncharacteristic nail biters, they actually lose to lesser teams at times.

Tell the QB, whoever it is at the time, to sling that sumbitch and don't be skeert. What's the worst that could happen - us not having a passing game?

You're joking...right! 8-4 or 9-3 if we are lucky. Just when I think that you Disney Dawgs have reached a new level of delusion, you say stuff like this.

Georgia is a fundamentally unsound football team. It is proven time and again every year. I just don't see why some of you can't see it. Tons of talent can't overcome it in big games.

Two examples off the top of my head...

Not being ready for the pooch kick and Sanders trying to intercept the ball instead of knocking the ball down. It cost us the Auburn game two years ago and the Tech game last year. Shall I continue...

funny that the team you mention with those mistakes won more than 8 games in both those seasons. As a matter of fact Richt has won 8 or less exactly 3 times in 15 years ( cause he's winning more than 8 this year). I can't believe Nancys like you continually bad mouth the best coach in UGA's history. Yes the best...he has to coach in an era of 8 conference games...not 5 or 6 like VD...hell if you look back at it Dooley should have won 10 or 12 SEC titles....he never played BAMA or Tennessee or LSU more than twice a decade...didn't have an SECCG to play in. Considering the players and coaches in this conference you had better hope he coaches at UGA for as long as possible. Tennessee thought they would get cute and fire Fulmer...you want to be Tennessee the last 8 years?

Brick by brick, IMO
