Has Jimbo chosen the SEC east instead of the west? (Doubt hell out of that). I think it is Kirby or a currently successful coach. Dabo? Mullen? Doubt it is Patterson since recruiting will factor heavily. Herman is a young coach who has caused a stir. My best guess is Kirby. (And what about JP?)

I agree. Richt was a fantastic coordinator when we hired him too. I would hope that if we made this decision we have a plan in place to bring a proven head coach in with a track record so that we can win and win soon. Throw the bank at them and shock us all (and the recruits) with who you bring in.

Rather have Frank Beamer or Big Jim Donnan than Kirby. I would go with Herman.

Herman is every bit as much of a gamble as Kirby Smart. He has exactly one year of coaching experience and if you look at their schedule, it's about as soft as it gets. There is no more of a guarantee that Herman would be successful than there is that Smart would be. Both are gambles. Unless we're hiring Saban, Meyer, or a couple of other coaches, anything is a gamble.

Soft yes, but overall, his team sucked last year and its not like he was playing with studs against little sisters of the poor. Comparable talent, he just coached it better.

All are gambles imo unless we go with a big name. Herman has run a successful program, been a successful OC and is a relentless recruiter. Smart may be a good one but he has been under Sabans cloak for so long we don't really know. That being said, all the chatter out there points to Kirby.
