here at the halfway point.
Yesterday was very important just in terms of winning a series, but it also gives us the tiebreaker over Kentucky. I imagine that we'll probably finish near UK record wise this year.
So we are 7-8. Kentucky is also 7-8, as is Alabama. There are 7 teams ahead of us currently. As we know, Texas A&M would have the tiebreaker against us, but the Aggies are only 4-11. I can't imagine them winning 3 more games than us over the back half of the schedule. That's a series that I wish we could have back.... A&M just isn't that good this year. But beyond that, Tennessee has shown themselves to be a good baseball team. You never want to lose a series at home, but that result doesn't look so bad in light of what the Vols have done since.
South Carolina sits at 10-5 and has the tie breaker against us, so we'd have to win four more games than them to finish ahead. But check out their schedule the second half: vs Arkansas, at Ole Miss, vs Miss State, at Kentucky, vs Tennessee. So who knows, Our second half is tough too, but not like that. I just wasn't that impressed with the Gamecocks when they came to Athens.
Either way, and regardless of everything with the tiebreakers, I think if we can go 7-8 against the back half of the schedule, we ought to be in a regional. And maybe even 6-9 will do that. The Arkansas trip is going to be extremely tough. Florida down there will be hard too (sure wish we were getting the Gators in Athens this year - they're nothing special away from home). But even with Missouri playing better baseball, that's still a very winnable series in Columbia.... and hopefully Auburn's spirit has been crushed pretty good by the time they get to Athens. We've stayed out of a sweep so far this season... hopefully we can in Fayetteville and I really think we can get a game against Florida anyway.
Feels much, much different that it did two weeks ago. Then it felt this this thing was in danger of slipping away. No longer the case now!
