With the bye week here, a lot of our normal sources are not in the building on Sunday. The schedules are different.
We have been asking around but not getting a lot of responses.
One source did eventually get back in touch with us, saying that the situation was 'not good' and that Bowers may need surgery.
But one source, who we don't know first hand, is not enough to report. Especially when we can't quantify the validity of the news.
Now though we have heard from a much better source. We are told that the family is very likely looking for a second opinion.
I know it's not much, but it is what we have heard today. We will keep digging and hopefully have more news sometime tomorrow.
[We reported live on the Watch Along Show that we were told that Brock suffered a high ankle sprain, but later, Kirby indicated it may be lower. So again, who knows?]
UPDATE - MONDAY morning
A second source confirms our news from last night that Bowers and his family are considering tightrope surgery. Either way, surgery or not, he will miss some time. If he has the surgery it could be either today or tomorrow. Apparently, the procedure only takes 25 minutes. The time needed for recovery though would have him back for the playoffs. Maybe the SEC championship game?
We were correct about the family seeking a second opinion.
I am betting that Georgia has sent Bowers' x-ray and MRI to Dr. Waldrop in Birmingham. He is a well-known and highly respected orthopedic surgeon who performed Tua Tagovailoa’s surgery at Andrews Sports Medicine Center.
UPDATE
A third source says that Bowers actually went to Birmingham in person. So we will keep checking on that. It makes sense that if they go with the surgery option after possibly consulting with Dr. Waldrop, they could have it done right there.
UPDATE
A fourth source confirms that Bowers and company reached out to Dr Waldrop.
UPDATE FROM UGA
"Brock Bowers sustained a high ankle sprain during the Vanderbilt game in Nashville over the weekend. Surgery will be performed today (Oct. 16) to stabilize the ankle and a full recovery is anticipated."
