They are popping up everywhere here. Who goes to those places? Are they beneficiaries of Obama Care? Are they docs for Mexicans? Never used to see them and now they are popping up all over. Anyone know the deal on these? If someone with no money and no insurance shows up there, do they, like emergency rooms at hospitals, have to treat them? Then does the gov reimburse them outlandish fees?

It's the only way a Primary Care Doc can make money these days....

set up an Urgent Care clinic, which really is a fancy way of saying you take walk-ins, and have most of the patient interaction done by PAs and NPs.

If done correctly, they should actually drive costs down by requiring payment at the time of service.

I wear out urgent care and minute clinics. My real doctor and kids doctor are a pain in the arse to go to.

Call a regular doc and they give you an appointment for...

...2 months away.

Be careful, heard some urgent care facility's are charging customers insurance as ER visits. I guess, that would mean your bill goes from 50 to 250 if using a copay

Good Docs are booked up with patients

so if in a hurry some go to these doc n the BOXes .... some shoddy treatment can be had in those. I stay away imo.

Yeah, that's shady and possibly illegal. I think you have to be certified

as an ER to be able to do that. But that may vary by State.

Thought I was getting the flu a few years ago...

...called my doc because I was going out of town that weekend and had to almost beg to get an appointment 2 days later.

Nurse checks me out; no flu but "you might have a heart problem."

Gave me an EKG test and made an appointment with a heart doctor later that day.

Heart doc says EKG looks fine, and you have a bad cold. Says the nurse at the other doctors office used to work for him and thinks everyone who is sick has heart disease.

never have a problem getting to see my PCP within 48 hrs if

i need too - and if i did - i would get another.

know of a doc-n-a-BOX that essentially killed a family friend. Allergy -> anaphylaxis -> DRT. Thing of it is .... was the WRONG treatment to begin with!

Too many colleagues with too many bad stories about urgent care.

Those Doc pics on the wall?...they don't work there....

.."physician's assistant's" going to diagnose you and send, what they see/think, to the DOCTOR via whatever technology. Modern day medicine to deal with the masses...good luck if U F'd up and need any real help there.

SAV all my life, got some great Docs who have beat me out some money on the golf course for 20 years. Blocked for some cardio RB guys in HS. Better chance of surviving a heart attack on the golf course than in a waiting room!

One of my young 20's, living out of town, goes to some Immediate Med PA on a Brown Recluse bite. Have Not lived my life like this here to deal with that compromise elsewhere with the closest of the close. Get to a real Doc or come home to one.

They have their place (not for me)...prolly better than sitting in the emergency room for a cough.

U f'd up and scared?....go to the emergency room and get a real doctor.
