and you walk in with your sidearm to get fitted for a holster. Do you pull it out, pop the clip and open the chamber before laying it on the counter? Do you do that before you walk in, or do you lay it on the counter and let them do it?

They always do. If it's a semi-automatic you can put one of those zip ties

through it with the gun locked back.

They generally have someone at the door and a sign before you walk in....

just make sure it's empty, no magazine and if a semi-auto open the slide and stick a flag in it like so. You can use a zip tie with a piece of tape on it.

Thanks. I just didn't want to freak everybody out doing the wrong thing.

Imagined everybody freaking and drawing down on me, and me having to yell, "Hey! It's cool! I'm just a dumbass! Everybody just calm down OK?"

LOL, I know what you mean. Had a GSP freak out on me when

I handed him my CC license. Made me sit with my hands on the steering wheel.

What if you're just going in to look around and you have your sidearm on?

You still gotta unload? Seems that would be the one place where you wouldn't have to unload. If you were going to let someone look at your gun, I could understand, but to just walk in with it seems counter-intuitive.

Depends on the shop but in most cases yes, unless you are a LEO....

Think about it. You have someone who is likely a complete stranger walking into a place that has probably north of $500K worth of GUNS sitting around.

Very tempting for an armed robbery even though all the staff will be carrying.

Best not to let a dumb criminal think about doing something that would get a lot of people hurt.
