Just wondering. I have heard from a few that we are looking at a pretty expensive project. I know that fans have been banging the drum for an IPF for years. CMR has been the loudest but fans have been very critical of ADGM particularly on this issue.
So if they agree on the location and keep it on campus, put this beautiful structure up that allows our boys to stay dry and safe during practice, are these same critics now going to pay up for it?
I just sat back and started thinking over the weekend about this. I want us to hire a slam dunk hire of a Women's BBall coach. Someone said Dawn Staley makes 500k at SoCar. So if we offered $750k to get the best coach (her), how in the heck do you pay for that?
What does our women's basketball program bring in? Maybe $100k per year? If she was able to pack out some Sunday games in the SEC next year, would we increase that intake up to $150,000? I know they can claim some of the ESPN contract money but is it really that much?
Then in Baseball, I want us Top 10 every single year. To do that we have to maintain top level coaching. Clemson was Top 10 for years and you find out their 2 top assistants were the reason. Those guys go to Vandy and UF and are now Top 5 programs of their own! It is about depth of coaching AND talent!
So you ante up in Baseball. You spend $10mm for a very nice upgrade, pay the top coach out there and some great assistants. Does that program pay for itself?
We are great in Swimming / Diving. Does that program make any money at all? Maybe hosting some events help out.
Tennis is our thing! Free admission all season long. I've watched several matches and never spent a dime.
So if we are going to be elite, and get not only caught up with our opponents but AHEAD of them, how do we pay for it???
We upped our tickets by $5. Auburn went to some Elite Pricing and has our game tagged at $115 for both Aub and UGA tix. Meanwhile we raise ours by $5. But we want #1 teams in about 10 other sports. That doesn't happen for free.
So are we prepared to increase donations to UGA to support all of this? Or do we pay the minimum Hartman Fund just to keep our seats? There are so many great charities out there that need help. Do we as individuals donate most of our money to UGA to help with all of this?
Not meaning to create an argument or take a side. I absolutely love UGA and want us to win every game in every sport every single day. I take pride in our Equestrian accomplishments as much as I do in beating Auburn in football! I just think that we are going to have to stop basing our amount to donate in Feb off of CMR's Tech performance and start swallowing the idea that we all have to give a little more to dominate like we want to.
I know Hartman is just football and you can donate to the sport of your choice. Hard to take money away from that seating priority and toss it over somewhere else. If Football can go a level higher, big money starts coming back our way!
