Why is no one talking about the ship collision off the coast of the UK?

A cargo ship captained by a Russian national t-boned a US flagged ship carrying military jet fuel. The striking ship made no attempt to avoid the stationary US ship or to slow down. The weather was clear and there was sophisticated technology aboard both ships design to avoid such collisions.

Maritime investigators have yet to develop a theory that does not include an intentional collision.

This seems important.

I thought Putin loves Trump. Or that Trump is an operative for Russia. Or is promoting their propaganda. We have some clashing narratives here for sure. Some of you may have to rethink your positions. Will wait to see what the investigation says, but you are right. It is absolutely interesting. Sounds like an enemy being an enemy if any of that is true.

Thought I heard in passing the ship was under some flag other than Russia ?

It was not operating under a Russian flag, but it was captained by a Russian national and crewed by Russians and Filipinos.

Your understanding of the potential complexity of the relationship between Putin and Trump, and thus what the implications are regarding potential actions, is limited.

Regardless, it's very interesting timing that while representatives of the US and Ukraine were literally at a table together in Saudi Arabia working through terms of a proposed cease fire, a ship captained by a Russia national proceeded in a straight line, in clear weather and at full speed for over an hour and t-boned a ship that just happened to be carrying US military jet fuel.

What are the odds of that being an accident?

This morning, Russia officially rejected the proposed cease fire. That means Trump will condemn Russia for not being serious about peace, right?

All of our understanding of the complexities of trump and putin’s relationship is limited. 😂 really? Do you have more clarity than the rest of us? Are you in the room? I am quite sure Trump wouldn’t have you listen in. I was being more tongue in cheek. But you know that destroys your narrative. Own it.

Russia is Russia. They suck. Wish them no good will. This could be a citizen of Russia who isn’t as stupid as democrats think they are. Probably had a family member killed by guns or weapons we put in Ukrainian’s hands. Wanting some retribution. Either way most foreign countries hate us. Even our allies. We have to pay for friends. I lived with or played golf with 13 guys in college from 6 different countries. The only foreigner that liked the U.S. was a Canadian. And we didn’t view him really as foreign. Scotland. England. Wales. Sweden. Chile. All hated us. These are 18/9 year old guys. So you know it came from their parents. They liked the country, but hated the people. All of them went back and most had chances to stay. Only one stayed. And he won the money list on the hogan tour one year and got his tour card for two years. He is a pro in Arkansas right now. Literally the only one that stayed. And I am quite sure he still hates us deep down. We are not negotiating with any real friends here. Ending the war right now is for the greater good imo. Neither one of them really wants to stop fighting. They will be at it again in 5-10 years. I am sure of it.

I think if the Russian initial reaction to a short term ceasefire extends to a signal that they don’t want to negotiate for a long term peace deal, Trump is gonna sanction the shit out of them. More than Biden ever did. Because Biden’s policy was to act tough against Russia but actually was tougher on domestic oil companies. He never wanted to be perceived domestically as easy on oil companies but his policies globally were set on keeping oil prices in check. Optics over reality. Trump will thump Russia economically. For real.

Putin just said that he is open to the ceasefire now, under conditions. More to come.

Zinger, I don't know what the nature of the relationship is between Trump and Putin. Just to make sure that point was clear, I even italicized the word potential. Not sure what more I can do.

What I was suggesting is that your assumptions about what could happen under various scenarios shows a lack of imagination. If the collision was an intentional message from Putin, it does not necessarily indicate the lack other alignment between Putin and Trump on Ukraine. This is a similar line of thinking that led you to conclude that because Putin publicly endorsed Harris, that's who he actually wanted to win the election.

That last paragraph of yours was quite a ramble. It sounds to me like you played a lot of golf with some real jackasses.

Most foreign countries don't hate us. I've spent the last eight years working for foreign-owned international companies and have travelled all over the world. I have had some deep political conversations with people of a lot of different nationalities and not one of them hated the US. Some have real affection for our country.

I spent two weeks with a local in Cambodia, which if you know the history of the country, you know that's a place that would be entirely justified in hating us. The people could not have been more gracious or welcoming. The English, Germans, Scandinavians, Italians were all appreciative of what the US represents. The French, meh, but that was mostly just the Parisians.

Of course, when we act like belligerent bullies, which is what the world is seeing now, that tends to impact our popularity abroad, as it should. So, every additional day of this Trump presidency gets us closer to the poor global relations you seem to think we have been subjected to all along.

We have two very different experiences is what it tells me. When I read what you wrote it sounded like you were being patronizing will. My knowledge of their relationship is limited. Of course it is. You were being specific with me. You were being an ass. At least that is the way I read it. If you meant different, my apologies.

How well did you get to know these folks? I lived with and spent years with several of these guys. They outlined that this is how most of their countryman felt. Love what the USA represents. The country. But the people are cocky and think they are better than everyone else. Word for word. We buy friends abroad. Which is fine. But too much is too much.

You think only Trump has acted like a belligerent bully. Have you ever listened to Biden speak. Especially when anyone challenged him. Jesus Christ will. I can post 100 examples of Biden being a human bully.

Some of my foreign teammates were complete jackasses. For sure. But even the ones that weren’t shared the same conclusions. Business conversations should never get personal on politics. If they ever did, both of you participating are morons. I don’t post anything anywhere that is political where someone can see my name. I don’t want it to affect my business. No one is likely to get that personal with you. None of the foreign players volunteered any of that right off the bat. After half a year being here. I have to admit it floored me to hear them say it as a group.
