We actually played pretty good help defense in the first half, but it was evident that SH decided at halftime (he announcers mentioned it as well) to take it into the paint off the dribble. The result....we put them in the bonus with about 11 minutes to play. So instead of going zone at some point soon after that we stay mtm and it is a parade of either baskets in the paint, two fts or score and a ft. That went on for about eight minutes until Fox finally decides to go zone. Their first six possessions after we did they got one score. But the damage was done. SH went five minutes without a fg most of which we were in the zone. How can Fox sit there and watch that and not make the change is just beyond my understanding. They had 10 offensive boards in the 2nd half before we went zone, so any argument about rebounding in a zone is mute. If we play zone from the 10 minute mark on I feel we win by 5-6 points. Hammer away, but this is the first time I've brought it up this year.
Plenty of others will make the point about Kessler and I hate to pile on, but the guy just cannot do anything. Play EW or Edwards, or Turtle and swing VCM to the 4 spot, but to continue to give HK minutes is poor coaching. And speaking of Turtle. I remember him as being a scorer in hs, but he won't even look to shoot now.
