Highest obesity rates for 1st world countries, stroke, heart attack leaders in our field. Again, I don't care but if you really want to "save America from itself" (which in and of itself I agree with) maybe we should start with easy topics. Like...calorie counting will keep us from being fatasses which "personal responsibility" over the past thirty years has nearly tripled our obesity rates. Think we are doing a good job with "personal responsibility"? No we are not. A goodly part of this is our countries general laziness. Another part of this is our countries incredibly calorie dense foods. A Big Mac combo is about 1000 calories. To burn that off you have to run for 60-90 minutes at either 8 mph (7 minute miles and thus seven miles) or 7 mph (8 minute miles for 90 minutes). Think even 10 percent of the U.S. Could do this daily to just burn their lunch? This is a good conversation to have because anti-gov folks can see that the gov could help by requiring limits on fast food calories. It would help us all. Seems simple but I guess not. I don't fear the government taking over my food choices, the big money agribusiness and Monsanto already have

What's sad is seeing a major cause of the obesity epidemic just be overlooked due to greed for moneyAhh bullshit! Complete and absolute bullshit.
Big agribusiness hasn't taken over your food choices and the gotdamned government shouldn't either.
Fat asses are an epidemic in this country. It's sad & it's sickening. They are costing us much much more than smokers ever have. And you know who's fault it is? Who's responsibility it is? The lard assed destined for diabetes, high cholesterol, & heart disease that shovels down fast foods constantly, that eats the incredibly large portions served and thinks that's normal, doesn't excersise, and truly believes he or she is "in shape" because they can still get around okay without one of those tax payer paid for scooters.
We have more choices & varieties in foods in this country than anywhere else in the world. Yeah there's all that nasty, high calorie, huge portion, you're gonna be so fat you can't see you're cack nor toes stuff that I amidittely indulge in from time to time myself.
But there's also entire sections of menus & grocery stores devoted to fruits, veggies, low cal, small portion, smart eating.
In other words, ahh hell I don't know the answer as society is getting fatter & fatter even though all it takes is the mind of a third grader to know that a Big Mac & fries ain't good for you every day of the week. Just sad.

It's great that we can get a full meal for $5..... It's also virtually guaranteeing poor people will eat this crap, all the time
Aisle after aisle after aisle at Walmart is nothing but sugar and carbs
Stick your heads in the sand if you want , and shout down any opposition to your blaming of your fellow Americans but the problems is clear and the resolutions are clear .... Just like with dadgum cigarettes you have to attack all angles of the problem
I'm not 'blaming' on anyone.... I'm saying, there's a big problem with multiple facets and areas of responsibility , and it's indeed foolhardy to only yell and scream at the weak and poor , or those stuck in a cycleNice, blame it on everyone but the person buying the crap, because they are mindless idiots and can't fend for themselves. 41 million people are on food stamps. Ever been behind 1 in the store and looked to see what they are buying? I have, and the person I observed had packs of steaks, crab legs, shrimp. TWO fonking buggies full of stuff. Total rang up to over $550, AND got cash back. They were eating like Kings, and I bought $130 worth of groceries and didn't get crap.

And why you so worried about what's in the buggy of another shopper? That always slays me to hear this kind of crap.... You must live in a low rent area if your shopping with people with EBT cards
yeah, i get it...i've seen people using EBT cards too. thing is, i dont really spend a lot of time looking in their cart and finding stuff to be angry about, is all. but hey, if you got enough time to worry about your own self plus those other people that have to take handouts, then go right aheadNo, I actually live in Oconee Co., you should google it. There are plenty of EBT card carrying people to go around, 41.7 million I think is the last number I've heard. And yes, these people do shop in Kroger and Publix as well.
Why am I worried about other peoples carts? Because I am buying their GD groceries, that's why.

sure it is....it's a clear public health issue and that's part of what governments are for. like it or not, when the actions of a large part of the society cost the rest of the society real hard, yankee dollars, then the governments role is to do something about it, as a public serviceWGAS? Its not the Governments place to tell us what we can and can't eat or how much? What's destroying the Country is dumbasses who don't see a problem with more and more government and depend on fools like Krugman for their opinons

sure, there's no lack of choice, and 'choice' is a part of it....to an extent....but you have to be blind to not see how overwhelming the odds are against making good, healthy choices, and how even a little bit of consumption really harms you.I understand it is a public health crisis that has to be dealt with, but the idea that healthy choices aren't available is just incorrect.
America is awash in food choices.

i think you are mixing issues to make some kind of weird xenophobic statement. we were discussing public health and nutrition. start another thread if you want to talk about that and i'll be glad to respond there.Hard not to notice when they are sta
So, iyo, should the government be doing something about the illegal invasion from south of the border? It's a public health issue and financial drain. After all, that large part of society (illegals crossing the border) is costing the rest of society those yankee dollars. I mean, it is the governments role to do something about it, right?
i think you are mixing issues to make some kind of weird xenophobic statement. we were discussing public health and nutrition. start another thread if you want to talk about that and i'll be glad to respond there.

you started the thread to talk about government taking action to improve public health by working on diet....i responded, and now you're mad because you gots nothingRight, you were talking about a public health issue. Is bringing measles, small pox, tuberculosis across the border not a public health issue? Why are these diseases not a health issue, and obesity is? And why isn't the government stopping these health issues from coming into our country?

i think , however, that the US Government does have vaccination programs for measles, smallpox, TB, etc.....i'm really not sure about each individual disease, to be honest, but i do konw there are programs to stop the spread of diseases. either those, or similar to those you mentioned....and they work
from what i can tell, nobody is trying to decide what anybody eats. what i see them doing is asking the food companies to provide calorie and nutritional information...which these companies dont want to do. they should be forced to, imo, as well as being forced to disclose the origin of their ingredients and the manner in which they were created. So you are okay with the government deciding what you can eat? At what point do you believe the government should get out of your life? Won't be long when everything we do, everywhere we go, everything we watch on tv, where we live, is all going to be dictated to us by the government. Don't you see where this is going? We are then controlled by Dictators. Our freedoms are under attack, and the attack has been coming at an increasingly more rapid pace in the last 3 or 4 years.

Save ppl from themselves because they're too stupid to know eating Micky D's to much might cause weight gain?

or just tell them what they're eating and where it came from, so they can have the opportunity to not be so stupid as they were when the big corporations who make all this 'bad for you food' hid all the information from them
really, all we are talking about here is labeling of products so people can make informed decisions...that's it. and y'all are pulling a nutty over it
so you want to call out everybody as stupid....even though they are trying to inform people and make them not stupid....wtf?You think ppl don't know what they're eating? Ok, I just don't need big brother to help me with my choice of meals
How about this. The government won't tell you what to eat at all. We stop all corn subsidies, so high fructose corn syrup isn't in everything you eat. The government can use that money to subsidize carrots, tomatoes etc... Or hell, end farm subsidies all together from the federal government. We let the government tell those on ebt cards what they can and can't buy in the grocery store as they receive direct subsidies, like a list (which there actually already is one but strengthen it). Maybe tax individual meals that are fast food at $0.50 per meal over 750 calories? Hell, I don't know the answer, but the answer of "personal responsibility" has failed but according to you the government shouldn't have anything to do with it. Well, then the government shouldn't have anything to do with paying for anyone's healthcare, or disability or provide any safety net. That's seems wrong also. Just s thought but maybe easy things like this or soft drinks that have 800 calories per 44 oz super gulp might just be something reasonable folks could talk about as things our government could help remedy for the good of everyone (tax payers like me who fund Medicare and Medicaid and poor southern states etc...) along with reducing the number of fat folks who ultimately will need Medicare/caid etc...should be a simple public health policy discussion and turns into "the government is telling me what to eat". You don't mind that ConAgra is telling you what to eat now do you?
so you want to call out everybody as stupid....even though they are trying to inform people and make them not stupid....wtf?
nutritional content labels...that's all we are talking here. you're obviously a fast food chef, but probably the mass of people that aren't can use this information.
No, it seems to me you're calling ppl stupid. They need gov to inform them of their choices? PPL that eat FF DGAS about calories, they care about cost. .....But then liberals don't really care about poor ppl...especially when they are making their own choices.
Save ppl from themselves because they're too stupid to know eating Micky D's to much might cause weight gain?
is that a fact?
What's the harm in putting labels on food so people know, with relative certainty, what they're consuming? You need to pay better attention . I sure you know what this (?) is? Maybe you missed it, cause it changes the whole meaning of the post. Ok, go. Try once more.![]()
In another thread you're complaining about cost for a wall to protect our boarder.....but now cost doesn't matter? What's the harm in putting labels on food so people know, with relative certainty, what they're consuming?
No wall, No labels, No peace .... Stick it to the manIn another thread you're complaining about cost for a wall to protect our boarder.....but now cost doesn't matter?
