I read all the threads below and the complaints about KS and staff not all here at the moment. Eason coming but shouldn't start day one. blah blah blah.

The fact is good things are happening. We have a new head coach that held UFags to 30 or 40 yards total offense in SECC until mid 4th quarter. He kept our number 1 recruit for the year in spite of the chaos. He has pulled in some other recruits we didn't have a shot at. JE is a legit contender to start early if for no other reason than if we are going to struggle at QB - we'd rather struggle with a player that will be around for a few years and get the experience - especially if you have chubb and sony in the back field.

GOOD things are happening. I like our chances next year a lot better than I did even just a month ago.

How exactly is thinking Eason shouldn't just be handed the starting position less positive than thinking he should be given it without earning it first ?
It's just good judgment not to list him as #1 right away. It might turn out He earns it, it might turn out He won't be ready.

He is starting from day one one reason why we hired smart to keep this class.

No, Kirby was hired because the powers that be feel he is the best fit long term. He was not hired with Eason in mind. Saban has NEVER just handed the starter's role to a QB, or any other position for that matter, and neither will Kirby.
Eason may start game one, He may red-shirt. Whatever happens will be the result of His and the other QBs' performances throughout the spring, and maybe into the summer.
Bama's superstar QB recruit from last season red-shirted, and Coker isn't exactly a star, but He was more prepared than Blake Barnett was.

And he was better than ours, although, not sure how much real chance Ramsey and Bauta were given. Besides, Golfin said he was a "legit contender". He didn't say he'd be starting for sure. But I HOPE Kirby will not make the mistakes CMR made with Joe T and Stafford. He even eventually said he "went with his heart, not his head."

I really don't think Richt made a mistake with Stafford. He wasn't ready when he finally started, imagine what He might have been like in Sep.
MS wasn't put in because He was ready, it was a desperation move. He really only had one good game his freshman season, that being against Auburn. Imagine Our QB throwing more picks than TDs in today's game like Matthew did that year, We'd be convinced the sky was falling.

Joe T wouldn't have started for my high school - even as a college senior. He didn't have a damn bit of business playing QB in the SEC.

Stafford wasn't ready, that is the bigger point from My perspective.
You can easily stunt a QB's growth by throwing them into situations they aren't prepared to deal with.
I've always wondered how good MS would have been if He'd red-shirted instead of being thrown into the fire ill prepared for the heat.

I seem to remember when EZ was a true freshman, he displaced Greg Talley very quickly. Everything I've seen and heard about Eason's ability reminds me of Zeier.

That is a long time ago and physically there's not much comparison between the two.
Of course Jacob is very talented and he has a chance to WIN the starter's position next season. This debate started out when somebody suggested He should be listed 1st on the depth chart from day 1. That would be a mistake IMO, for any number of reasons. I just don't see the job being anointed his, and I'm not sure He'll win it right away either.
Both Lambert and Ramsey have the ability to be very good QBs. The questions lie between 4 ears, sometimes coaching can get through.
If a light comes on and his butt stops puckering, Lambert has a really high ceiling. He was about as good as I've seen for a 7 quarter stretch.
Ramsey doesn't have Eason's arm, but he can make all the throws. I think it'll come down to whether Lambert can hold off JE though.
I don't care Who starts, as I expect the person practicing best will win out.
